As some of you are aware, we are looking to purchase a nice used Class A. But, when I look up the value of these RVs using NADA, none of them even come close to even "avg retail" and these are private parties that I'm dealing with. So what gives? Am I missing something or are they just overpriced?

BTW - We're trying to not break the bank so we're trying to stay in the late 90's - maybe low 2000 model range. (if that makes any difference)

Little confusing. Are you saying that the asking pices by sellers is aove the NADA ave retail?

Those are only asking prices. Make an offer.

I've always thought NADA was way out of whack on the high side. The NADA prices are well above what they shoule be.

Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

Lots of folks who sell them themselves rather than trade them do so because dealer won't give what they're wanting for them. Not sure how that plays into the situation but sure it has some bearing.

i just bought mine and learned that campers are very hard to price for a bank. They had to do an internet search and compare prices that way..

Yes, asking prices seem to be WAY above NADA average retail.

remember, NADA prices are mainly for dealer usage and are only valid as a ballpark number for the average person.

i find doing a search for a particular used model and what prices it is selling for, from various dealers and private parties.

that's more beneficial for the average buyer than NADA prices.

How do you know what they sell for?

Also, remember that many owners are upside down, owing more than the RV is worth. The tend to ask for enough to par off the loan...

if you simply put brand and model number in Google, you'll get links to where someone is selling that model.
or use RVTrader or Ebay or many other ways.

no different than searching for anything you want to buy on the internet.
if you want to find deals, check out PPL Motorhomes' or CrankyApe's websites for good deals on Class A's and other RVs.

Yes, I know. It's really easy to find asking prices.

But, very difficult to find out what something actually sold for. So, it's really hard for an individual to find out what the market is doing.

As I tried to indicate earlier, a asking price means nothing.

If you see something you want to buy, figure out what you want to pay. Make an offer. If your offer is accepted---you offered too much. If it's not accepted, thank the seller ane leave. And you have to actually leave.

If you haven't heard from the seller in a week or so (yes, really a week0. check bak with them. Then shop somewhere else.
