Last time in Helena Lincoln Road Rv had no water. (was Oct and 70F but they said it was soon to freeze so dailies got no water) I usually try to bypass Butte by going on 69 at Boulder...it joins 55 then 41 meeting I-15 at Dillon. Its flat (no hills). Monida Pass (border of Idaho/Montana is the highest point. I always look at traffic cams (google them) before leaving Dillon.

Thanks for all your help. I like the idea of going to Jackpot for a few days on the way to the sun. Not sure we will be going to Palm Desert, El Centro, or Yuma area, any thoughts on these areas. As I had mentioned in my other post, we are 50 (many parks are 55+), enjoy golf, sitting at the rv and having a few drinks, visiting with other campers, day sight seeing trips, and my wife smokes (seen some parks are non-smoking). Have looked on the internet and found it very overwhelming and I'm sure the websites show only the best sides of the parks.

Wouldn't be concerned about 55+. I am 60 and been fulltiming for 5 years. No one has ever asked my age and we usually stay at 55+ parks. Talked to a guy obviously younger (40) when in Llano Grande 55+ park in Texas about that. He said he always stays at 55+ parks and had never been turned away.

In Arizona over 55 parks are required to allow a small number of people under that age. And tell your DW to stop smoking so she can enjoy many snowbird winters. We have completed our forth snowbird winter, and we seldom see a smoker in our park. They all want to live long happy lives and play a lot of pickleball games.

If you come through Utah on I-15 make sure you hit the Salt Lake Valley on a Sunday, lot less folks on the road then. Utah also has one of the best snow removal systems going.

Watch the weather and wind reports. We aim for the south side of Monida for the first day which is around 600 miles. The snow isn't the worry.... the wind is, avoid Salt Lake at all costs unless you go through at 2 in the morning. Get a slip tank as well

Just before you get to Farmington, take hwy. 67 ( Legacy Parkway ), down to I-215 & that avoids the worst of SLC!

Just like in Alberta you have to watch the weather reports.. and travel on good days... Choke points are Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.. SLC just takes forever to get through .. I really HATE going through Vegas on I-15 if you can, do it at 4 am when traffic is a little less.. This spring on the way home I took a 400 mile detour to avoid Vegas.

The worst times to hit Vegas is Fridays and the week ends. Also before 9:00am and after 3m on Monday thru Thursday. Salt Lake City is a breeze on Sundays before 3m. I live in the SLC Valley and we always leave and return on Sunday.
When we moved here in 1978, I asked a salesman at a car dealership how much extra turn signals were. He said they come standard with the car and asked why I would think they were an option. I said I thought they cost extra since the majority of folks here in Utah don't have them. He didn't think it was funny.

Your biggest stumbling block along the Wasatch Front on I-15 will be construction. Right now it's from Alpine through Springville. Our new State Symbol is the Orange Road Construction Barrel.

Coming home this year and to avoid Vegas, I cut off at Boulder City into Lake Mead Park then connect with Lake Mead Blvd which connects with I 15 at the north end of Vegas. Plus there's a real nice campground (Boulder Beach) in the park.
