Wow, sorry to hear about this, Jason. I agree with the others. Don't accept it and get a new unit. Sucks you have to wait longer.

Yeah I'm a bit disappointed. We custom ordered it with everything we did / didn't want and waited this long. It's going to stink because I don't see one unit that matches ours and really don't want to sit around for another four months waiting on another custom ordered one. Oh well, guess I'll find out more Monday.

I haven't seen this noted, but... Warranty on the repair? If there isn't one, backed by either a great dealer or Northwoods... It's time to reject the freight damaged item and get a new one.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

Sorry to hear about this, especially so close to summer.

I think you are on the right track with the dealer handling this as they are the ones that paid for the shipping and should be the ones to do the claim.

Myself I would be ticked waiting for a new one but this will save a lot of potential problems in the future (and potential costs).

All the best with this.

Your disapointment is more than understandable- your willingness though to consider, I'm hesitant to say, taking camper-having repair work done on it-because you dont want to wait any longer though also understandable I could see myself doing it to negate wating for another-well just not in your best interest.
You or even the best of 'experts' unless they stripped it down to the frame honestly no way to verify possible damage. Could be the straps only wore thru roof-but if enough force applied in directions camper wasnt designed for-could manifest anywhere-anytime down the road. Once camper is assembled its a sum total of the parts. IE you could have completly seperated frame members/broke welds-but youve interior cabinets-panling-exterior siding all acting as structure.
Im not trying to paint a horror story-Just seems for your 'dream' that your paying for could end up with a disater-another 4months really that long?.
Then again could be ok with a new rubber skin and a bit of caulk but my opinion- it was damaged- true extent undeterminable- I wouldnt touch it.

Have them send the camper back to the factory and You drive down there and pick it up on their dime!

Well, after talking it over with my wife them sending us a new camper is the only thing we are going for at this point. So we shall see what happens next week I supposed.

Being heated, plus having the camper up here in Alaska made me just want it to be over with. However, the more I think about it and the money invested I want the unit I paid for. That being a new unit. So, hopefully everything works out.

AnEv942 has said exactly what I was going to say - we obviously think alike .

If they repaired the roof then a couple of years down the line you could be posting topics here saying things like "My camper wings are collapsing" or "The cabover section of my camper is sagging" or "my jack mountings have failed" or "Interior cabinets are detaching from the frame".

Good luck and lets hope you can get a complete new replacement - the wait will be frustrating now, but it will soon be over and you will be thankful from then on that you did wait rather than accepting a repair for the sake of speed and then being continually worried about whether something on the camper was going to fail.

Steve.

I would just have the local place your comfortable with do the repair. Have them pad it a little and give you a rebate for your trouble. I can tell you from experiance anything I repair on my rig is way better than when it left the factory. To ship a unit that far and not be ready for a little shipping damage is not being realistic. I suppose you could have paid for it shipped in a custom container but at what cost. When I worked in the marine industry, boats shipped in from across the country by land or water always required some touch up before delivery to the customer. It is what it is, have it fixed and enjoy the rest of your already short camping season. Then again you could hire that lawyer and drag this out for a couple years. I am sure he would enjoy that.

AkJason, I really respect your not having a knee jerk reaction, and approaching the problem with thought. Most folks would panic, and threaten to sue everyone that came in contact with the TC. It is a real challenge to get this type problem solved, and especially difficult if focused on suing someone. It appears you are making the best out of a bad situation.

FreeLanceing's post has merit, and I am sure you have/are considering it. With a cool head, I am sure you will make the right decision. Personally, I would make every effort to leave the lawyers out of it, and only bring one in as a last resort.

Update : Dealer is going to handle it from their end. I'm going to hang back for a bit and see what they do. Dealer is looking like they want to ship me a new one, waiting to see what the shipping company comes back with.

Tis good to here.
