I thought i read about it once before, but I could not find the topic. My first time with an on board gas tank, I can hear the tank popping wile it expands and contracts while I am running the generator or with temp changes. IS this normal? Should there be some kind of venting? When I open up the gas cap you can hear the pressure being released and the tank expanding.

Due to emissions, gas tanks can not free vent any more. The popping is normal.

I find it hard to believe you generator can even run if the tank is not vented.

If they can't vent, why don't the tanks collapse when emptying? You got me wondering as I have a gas tank but haven't used it yet.

There HAS to be a vent, the generator fuel pump can's pull a vacuume in the tank. I assume they all have charcoal canister now a days just like cars.

I would find the vent hose and verify that it is not kinked or plugged.

They vent one way,in. That is why you have pressure when removing a cap to refill. On todays vehicles, if the gas cap is left loose or not on at all, in most cases, it will set a check engine light and fault in the ECM.

Thanks for the feedback. Knew it had been discussed before. Just got to get used to it I guess.
