Just curious - we're new to RV'ing and have a small dog. Would like to stay at Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim). Has anyone else stayed there with a pet. They say you can't leave them in the RV (our pup loves staying in there). Any comments/advice?

Most all parks..public and private have some kind of rules about leaving pets "unattended."
National Parks...no dogs on the trails.

That might be the only National park we've been to that let the dog go into some buindings.

We leave our dogs in the camper all the time. Just be sure there is good ventilation and ample water. As long as the dog isn't barking incessantly, who will ever know? or care?
I leave a 4" x 6" card with my cell phone number on it. It sits on the dash board in a real obvious spot. That way, if anyone needs me, all they have to do is call.
NP rules are the most restrictive. The general rule is a pet can only be on a paved surface.
Enjoy your trip and don't worry about the dog. We travel with three of them, and it's never been an issue anywhere.
Travel is fatal to prejudice,bigotry,and narrow-mindedness,and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad,wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Likewise, our dogs stay in the fiver while we're gone. We don't leave them for extended periods, but up to several hours is fine. Just make sure yours isn't an incessant barker while you're gone, and there shouldn't be any problem.

No dogs on the trails in national parks but most people leave their pets in their rigs while they hike.

You can take your dog in Shenandoah National Park and they are allowed on trails provided they are on a leash of no more the 6 feet. My dog Rocco has also been on trails in Organ Pipes National Park. In the Grand Canyon they are allowed on trails above the rim and cannot be on any trails below the rim.

We're getting ready for our long trip, From Tx to NM,AZ,NV,CA,OR to WA. Then back home by ID,WY,CO,OK to Texas....We traveling with two smaller dogs that are use to traveling. They go whereever we go!!! ARE THERE ANY thing we might need in any of these states other than general health papers??

This is what we've done, also. My only other concern would be heat (on the South Rim - it gets HOT) - either worrying that the A/C could fail while we were gone; or in burning the dogs' feet on hot pavement while taking them for a "break". If you're vacationing in the spring or fall - no worries.

As long as your dogs don't bark continually while you are gone, you'll be fine. Miss Daisy, our Welsh Terrier, is used to the 5'er and has her bed and toys out. We usually leave either the Weather Channel or Public Radio on low while we are gone, just because she is used to hearing both in the RV and at home. We never leave her for more than about 3-4 hours. She does fine.
