Im looking around and getting mixed results for what is a good shock for towing for my 2001 f-250 2wd. The shocks on it are toast. Speed bumps send the front end bouncing excesively so you can imagine with the trailor hooked up. Ive been recommended KYB monomax by a few people but i wanted to ask the people who tow.

If you plan on keeping your truck for a while you might want to look into shocks that come with a lifetime replacement warranty. I got the top of the line Monroe's and as long as I own my truck I'll never have to buy shocks again. Whatever you get you will notice a huge difference as day to day it is hard to notice just how bad they have gotten though it sounds like you are due. Good Luck!

I have a 1991 F250 and when the factory shocks up front went out I put the best Gabriels I could find on it. They were not as effective as the ones I had just taken off and the truck failed the jounce test. I then put the best Monroes I could find on it. They were somewhat better than what I had taken off at first but within 20,000 miles they were shot. I then broke down and paid $300 for a set of Rancho 9000XLs from 4wheelonline. I have only had them a couple of weeks but the initial results are encouraging and I like the adjustable damping for the different loads I run.
If you don't want to spend that kind of money you may want to go back to the Ford dealer and buy OEM shocks. The Gabriel factory was 2 miles from my house until they closed it down and moved it to Mexico several years ago and I new some of the engineers there. They told me that the OEM shocks were not as pretty but were actually much better made than their aftermarket shocks. I checked with the Ford dealer once and they were not as expensive as I expected.

I run Bilsteins on my F350SRW and am happy with them. I had Rancho 9000XL's on the rear before and was happy with them too but I prefer the Bilsteins over the Ranchos.

Depends on the budget. Monroe Reflex or Bilstein HD in my book. Other cool shocks are Rancho RSX and Edelbrock IAS.

I picked KYB last time around. After 10k I can say they contribute to a nicely cushioned ride.

Last week I put a set of 4 Bilstein 5100's on my dually and have determined shocks don't make a dually ride any better. It's still a 1 ton truck and will ride like a 1 ton truck. But they sure look alot cooler with the boots and brushed aluminum bodies than the factory rusted ones! Maybe when I hook up the fifthwheel I might see a difference.
