I always leave my safety chains and breakaway switch connected while unhooking and leveling too. I forgot the wheel chocks once on my little utility trailer, and the chains kept the trailer from running away. Of course, you need to remember to unhook the chains before moving the TV.

As long as the 7way in hooked to your truck, the truck will power the jack. I have a Barker, and I know this to be true from experience.
