Thinking about getting a 2nd vehicle suitable for towing 31ft Rockwood 2703--5900 dry weight/ 7500 wet.
Currently towing with 2011 Expy EL rated for 8900. Thinking about getting a F150 eco boost rated to tow 11,300 on the twin turbo engine.
Any thoughts on how this might be different from the expy for towing--same, better or worse? Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the Eco Boost?

Better...make sure you order with the HD/Max payload package.
EcoBoost longer wheel base, more torque, heavier duty suspension, LT tires, heavier frame components...
Your Expy is trying to be both a passenger car and a truck...the EcoBoost is a truck.

Hey there, I have read nothing but positive feedback about these engines. There are always a couple bad eggs in the bunch but just about everyone i have talked to have nothing but smiles on there face since day one! I'm assuming you have the 5.4 in the Expy? The Ecoboost will be like night and day compared to the Expy! I tow a 2012 Outback 292bh 32' that is 6500 dry / 8200 wet with mine and I'm very pleased with the truck. I would just suggest getting the max tow pkg which gives you the nice tow mirrors, intergrated brake controller and 373 gears. The best thing about these engines is that they reach full torque at 1700-1800rpm so there is no high reving to get up the steep hills!! I set the cruise at 62mph and it cruises on flat roads at 1600rpm and on the steepest of hills never going over 2500rpm to maintain speed.
Good luck, Kevin

I've been watching the Ecoboost pretty closely since it went on sale about 3 years ago in the Taurus SHO, it's been available in the F-150 for about 16 Months. Most owners seem very happy with them, there have been very few complaints. Oh, and Ford sold more than 100,000 Ecoboost F-150's in 2011.
The jury is still out in long term durability, but only time can tell that story. As far as towing your trailer, if you Expy tows it, the Ecoboost will probably tow it better. If your only buying the Ecoboost for Fuel Economy reasons only, it's probably not worth it.

There is no comparison with the Expy, the difference will be staggering if you get the F150 with max payload and towing

X2! Exactly my experience. It even takes some pretty decent hills at 1600 rpm; occasionally selecting 5th at 2000 rpm. This is at 60 mph. We just finished a 3,300 mile towing trip pulling a 5500lb RV trailer. The Eco is 10% more fuel efficient than our previous 5.4 under the same conditions.

I think the EcoBoost would easily out-tow what you have now.

I wonder if there are plans for an Ecoboost F250 engine. I looked at the F150 Ecoboost. The problem I run into is that the payload capacity for a CC 4X4 6.5 ft bed with the max tow package appears to be around 1900 lbs. We haul much heavier than that on many occasions. My wife is a potter and we often go to shows with the airstream and a full load of pottery in the truck.

You need the heavy duty payload package for your situation. That will take you up to 2300 lbs for the CC/4x4/6.5. 2800 lbs if you go with the super cab.

Get at least the max towing package which offers about 1800 pounds of real world payload over the 1400 pound standard crew cab EB trucks. The EB F-150 will tow noticeably better than the Expy.
