We had a seasonal for 16 years in the same place. Out of the 100 sites there all were seasonal. Talk about your cliques! You were either in or you were out...We decided to pretty much hang with a few close neighbors and forgot about the rest. I mean come on people it was an RV park not a bunch of exclusive condos somewhere..Have no plans to do that again. We love traveling around and making new friends now. Way more fun.

What is a seasonal site? I'm guessing from this conversation that it is a site where people can stay for the entire season? How does that work, and why would they set sites aside for that purpose?

For us it's a campsite that we 'rent' from mid-May though October every year. It serves both as our storage site for our motorhome and our place to camp each week when we're not traveling. We get to use the rv a lot more this way.

We seasional and travel around...one reason seasionals often don't like the travelers is because in the last few years it seems more and more weekenders want to be catered to...don't care to be curteous...don't watch their kids and lack respect for the campgroung and their fellow campers. We as seasionals in our park generally go out of our way to be friendly to everyone. As for there being seasional sites...a campground can not exist on weekenders alone anymore you need the seasionals to keep the doors open unless you are in a tourist actraction area. Last year there was 1 seasonal moterhome in our park...this year there are 5...the cost of fuel drove them to being seasonal.

Most of the seasonals around here look like junk yards with old fridges & just junk laying round everywhere. In general, they just look trashy. The people may or may not be friendly, I just don't want to spend my weekends looking at their trashy sites. Just because they may be seasonals is no excuse for looking trashy.

I have on occasion stumbled into a seasonal campground when traveling and didn't find the experience anything like RVing at all. Lots of packing crate buildings, tarps on roofs and yards full of toys and other junk etc. I doubt if they're all that way but when I found a TVA campground on a campbook I had I figured it would be a good overnight stop. Turned out it had been sold to private operator who had turned it into a seasonal several seasons ago and it had REALLy gone to pot. Now when I realize I've found another one I just keep on driving.

Seasonal sites are common in cottage country. A great idea for those who want a more permanent seasonal presence on a lake or river area. Very common in the interiour of BC, the Shuswap and the Okanagan. For the boaters (not me) sure beats dragging the boat back and forth every weekend. Many sites are now purchased outright so once you buy the site you can customize it the way you want. We use ours as a home base for when we are in the Okanagan in the summer.

Seasonal sites are great for the owners of CGs. It is sure money no matter what the weather is or how bad the economy gets. Most of the ones that I've seen tend to be a little run down. I have stayed in several over the years and finally have had enough. I'm sure there are some great ones ... I just have not seen them. Now I travel as much as I can ... if I don't like the CG, I just move on.

Yes frequently a c/g with a large or predominant seasonal clients will be a bit stand offish to short term campers. I have found this most every time I have used one. Some c/g's go to the extent of completely separating them from each other. This works well I think, especially if you are a early departure person and you concern your self with disturbing long term or seasonal guest. While on this subject has any one else noticed how many more c/gs are going to the seasonal guest?

Homer...as I stated...in this economy to stay in business you need seasionals. If it were not for us seasionals our park would have closed a year after the current owners bought it. Like it or not it has gotten too expensive for many to travel. Example...we trave once or twice a year and seasional the rest. A trip to one of our favorite campgrounds for years, only 3 hours from home, for 1 week this year will cost 25% of what my 6 month seasional costs us.
