Fortunately his company will have to pay it.....IF they lose.
Unfortunately IF it has to come out of HIS pocket he will be left nearly penniless with only $68 BILLION Dollars....but not enough to drop him off the Wealthiest man in the world rating.
Getting Slim to pay such a large sum would be a major victory for Cofeco, whose ability to enforce the rules in a country where many major industries are concentrated in the hands of a few powerful families is seen as weak.
Sounds like just about any other capitalist country. I hope Slim wins the case. I continue to cite the same story; thirty years ago no one had a phone line in Mexico, it cost 500 dollars and took up to six months to install. The telephone union had constant strikes and provided terrible service.
Today, a new land line, high speed internet, 100 minutes of national long distance plus 72 hour intallation can be had for 532 pesos installed and 389 pesos a month.
I hope he wins his case. He has done more good for Mexico than any harm and it is ashame he doesn't run for president. I read some of the comments down below the article and it shows people's ignorance talking about the days of the inquisition and the Spanish.
How many of us have some of our retirement monies tied up in stocks and investments owned by Carlos Slim not to mention using the many services his companies provide. There are other services than Telmex and Telcel. It is all a choice.
Having thought about this some more and with the recent news that Evo Morales just nationalized the Ecuadoran power grid(Hugo Chavez did this recently with cement plants and flour mills once owned by Mexicans), what would happen to great Mexican capitalists like Slim should Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador win the presidential election? AMLO is friends with Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro.
Imagine, the ability to rubber stamp the nationalization of companies, which had happened in Mexico with the banks, power company and Pemex. Very scary times we live in.
The slogan these great socialists carry is, "take from the rich and give to the poor". But what will happen to the guy at the bottom who starts a business and gets rich under this concept? Hmmm, doesn't look like a good idea to take from the rich, now does it?
qtla Yes you Rico guys can hook up to longterm plans but the average day to day mexican gets a pay as you go cel phone and gets charged 4 pesos a min to call outside their calling area. And when we phone into Mexico we get charged 30 cents a min, I can call China for 2 cents a min!! These are the folks he is fleecing>
Sorry, no plan here. I have prepago too. I use Skype for national/international long distance.
People need to be smart consumers and know how their company charges and what are the discounts.
Telcel Amigo rates:
3 amigo numbers at no charge
9 favorite long distance (national) .98 pesos per minute
Amigo Plus TODO DESTINO $3.98 pesos U.S. and Canada
Purchase 150 pesos credit and all calls are 1.98 pesos per minute
Doesn't seem unreasonable to me. The other option is the 389 peso per month landline, 100 minutes long distance and high speed internet.
Most people never have any balance on their phones. They put 20 pesos a month just to keep the phone in service and use it to receive calls.
And trust me Lew, I'm not rich by any means. Anyone who has been to my house knows I'm just a little guy.
QT Yes but most consumers are not smart like you. Carlos Slim got rich because people can only afford a pay as you go- they put 200 pesos on it and it runs out quickly and they wait until they make another 200 pesos in one day and put it all on the phone.
