Hi All,
I have an 2007 Dynasty and trying to figure out what the issue is:
- Batts started to cut out showing low batt red light on magnum panel(never saw this b4).
-Went to FL from MD and had to run generator for A/C's anyway.
-Overnighted in SC and turned of genny and by morning, red light low batt again.
-Close to 6 years on batts, owned coach since new, religiously checked water levels and used distilled and for the most part of the last 6 months, coach hooked to extention cord keeping charge up.
- Got to FL,stopped genny to hook up 50 amp. Magnum read went out.
- When 50 amp hooked up, watied a few mins and magnum display came on and showed, "self test connecting" and then acted normal as if showing float charging batts.
- Unhooked 50amp to leave park and had to start genny as readout went blank again. After having to start and stop genny a couple of times did the magnum panel show the 'self test'(came up everytime and lights flashed)and finally connect to the coach.
-Came home and replaced with 8 new interstate GC2's.
-After a day on charge, wanted to make sure all was well and unplugged shore power extention cord(15amp/110). Panel still showed
chaged in batts reading 12.8.
-Came out the next day and panel was blank(most likely due to magnum cutting off with cutoff at 11v(did not have auto gen set start prog'd)
-plugged in to shore 110 power and 'self test' and lights flashed, but it would not hook up to coach. Had to start genny to get the hook up to the coach.
-Once hooked up with genny, panel showed voltage in batts and I immediately turned off genny and plugged into shore before mangum cutoff to too low batts.
-Currently on 110 shore power and showing float charge.
Can anyone give me and idea of issue with inverter or where else to start?
Thanks,
GG(sorry for length)
Every so often (but rare) my Magnum panel acts up and does some pretty weird stuff, .. similar to yours..
I unplug the panel connector from the inverter (looks like a phone cord jack), and plug it back in. This essentially reboots the control panel and everything then settles down and works as normal.
Thanks for the response. I did try to reeset the inverter box in the basement compartment according to manual. It said to hold the on/off switch for about 15 secs and it should reset. After that I lightly pressed the on/off button and the inverter did come on as I went in coach and led was reading inverter 'on'. Turned off from that point but have not unplugged shore power. I forgot to mention that when I was testing by unplugging the shore power with the new batts installed, not only was the magnum shut down, but I had no house juice at all until I started the genny. I am guessing that the when the batts drained to 11volts, it shut everything down.
Thanks,
GG

Try unpluging the cord to the control panel. It's posible the control panel needs rebooting, not the inverter. If the control panel has gone out of sync, it will send false instructions to the inverter even though the inverter itself has been reset.
Hi Corkey05,
Was just out and unscrewed the panel in the coach, unplugged and left sit for about 1 min and plugged back in. All panel lights flashed and 'self test connecting' msg came across and it shows float charging 13.6v again. And when I turn off the charger, it only read 12.5 and within a minute started flashing 12.3/12/4 as if I have something on. I know there are some things that will drain down, but not that fast and if I remember correctly from the past, when batts were fully charged, display would show 12.8volts when charger off.
Thx, GG
-Can you verify the voltage on the batteries is what the Magnum is telling you? FYI- The Magnum charge current gauge is highly inaccurate unless you have the BMK installed. Voltmeter isn't anything to write home about either..
-Have you looked at the panel to see if the Magnum charger is really on, and if so, what's it's charge rate? There are adjustments to limit the charge current all the way to Off
-Is the battery select in 'Flooded' or 'AGM', not in a custom mode with bogus spec's?
-Are you shutting the inverter OFF when not in use? Even when you do the magnum still draws ~250ma (FYI)
-You drove all that way and the coach didn't charge the batteries? Sounds like you have a dead contactor, unless someone has purposely disconnected it.
-You can always call Magnum. They're a US company, speak English, and are really helpful!
Just out testing again. Unplugged shore power and magnum display went out. When I plugged 110 shore pwr back in, magnum flashed, showed 'self test' msg and then displayed 9.0 volts and showly ramped up to 13.6volts asorb charging.
Anyone experience this?
Thx GG
The new batteries may not be fully charged. I'd check again in 24 hours and see what the story is. If they are typical golf cart batteries and you have 8 then the capacity in amp-hours is around 900 amp-hours. That can take a while to get to float values.
