I just did an oil change on my generator using spec oil, and after the fact started to wonder if Synthetic would have been better.
Any input?

I use synthetic blend in all my motors, lawn mower, pressure washer, generators... I like that it's better and most of those devices don't have oil filters.

Just changed my oil and filter today on my Onan. I use Mobil 1 synthetic on the generator and the coach motor. I think it is worht the expense for the added protection.

Ours has had nothing but synthetic since the initial oil change when it was new. Just had it serviced at Speedco with Rotella T-6.

If a gasoline or propane generator that's great (if the proper viscosity).
But, if a diesel, read carefully on the bottle/can to verify that it IS for diesels/meets the mil specs of you diesel.
The two oils are not necessarily the same!

On the same line here. I know of alot of engines with well over 200,000 miles on regular oil. Changing the oil and airfilter on a timely basis is more important.
I do like sythetic in tranny's and as a mix in my 2 stroke stuff. Only because you rarely change tranny fluid and with the 2 stroke you actually burn the oil and its cheap.
As far as your generator, it may be worth it as it does not take much oil but I would just wait until your next oil change to put it in.
