Hello,
I work online also while traveling (web hosting industry), and use ATT for internet (tethered wireless from my droid).
I have like a 4 GB limit, and use about 7 GB extra per month ($10/1GB extra). It's expensive, but you gotta work. :/
We also have a Verizon 3G MiFi, but I've never found it useful. Pretty much always sucks everywhere you go. The same applies for satellite internet.
The ATT account usually has good data speeds, and has worked in every state we've been too so far. Where we are now I'm running:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 4298 kbps (537.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 869 kbps (108.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Of course we don't camp where we don't see good signals, and speed tests.

Personally I dont think you will find another service better than Verizon.
We have Verizon phones - 6 lines. We heard Millenicom uses the Verizon Towers and you would get the exact same service as Verizon. Not true. I contacted Millenicom several times indicating that our son (lives 2 lots away) always got better service by a consistent 2-3X with Verizon Mifi. They indicated he was getting 4G - there is no 4G in this area.
We terminated our Millenicom contract and signed with Verizon Mifi again (second time). Our only concern is the 10GB limit. We have been running a consistent 20GB (that was our Millenicom limit) and only because we monitored the data using Networx - free usage utility. With Adblock and Flashblock Firefox addons the videos dont automatically start - I can select what I want to view.
Millenicom told us several times we should have the exact same service as Verizon. It just isnt true. I can connect thru Millenicom and run Speedtest.net and disconnect - connect with V Mifi and the download rate will consistently be 2-3X Millenicom.
Id be real curious to learn if Verizon has the ability to "prioritize" service to be sure their customers bubble to the top.

Most videos are 3-6 MB, not GB if you are referring to YouTube or other Yahoo videos.

Hosting industry here too. Do you ever seek out campgrounds with Internet? If so, how frequent and reliable are they?

I think I'm going to go with millenicom 50gb plan as a backup to my Verizon plan. And mostly just try to search out campgrounds with Internet included.

According to the guy I talked to at millenicom, they run off either Verizon or sprint depending on the package. I also wouldn't be surprised if the providers did throttle due to the limits being better than they offer direct.

Hello,
Yes, of course. If you choose a private RV park most have free WiFi.
It's hit or miss on the reliability and speed. My camper doesn't get setup anywhere unless I know I have reliable and fast internet.
Please let me know when you get setup with Millenicom as I'm interested in knowing how well it works.
Also, what area of the country are you in?

This is our current Verizon 4620 4G/3G Mifi - we only get 3G in our area. These tests are against the same server in Pittsburgh. These tests were run just 3 minutes apart.

Wow, 1 MB wouldn't work for me.
I must expect too much when it comes to my internet.
I've never had good luck with my Verizon MiFi card. I was thinking of upgrading it to a 4G card but am reluctant because of the cost and performance I've been seeing across the country.
So far, ATT's HSDPA network has been very hard to beat (as you can see above).

Dutch,
In our case we use a WifiRanger Pro router when we need to share access. The test above was with the Novetel USB760 plugged directly into my pc and the Mifi sitting on the table just using the PC built-in wireless.
Notice our grades: F+ <<< reminds me of Jr HS

If AT&T had decent coverage in all the places I need it, I'd be tempted to switch. As it is, Verizon does have the coverage I need, where I need it, and the speeds have generally beat the campground WiFi systems. I will be switching to 4G when it's more widely available, so I expect the speed issues will be resolved for the most part at that point. In the meantime, Millenicom's 20GB 3G plan seems to be the best deal available for my use.
