I'm kicking around the idea of putting a cold air intake on my 03 Suburban. I hear people talk about added HP and MPG. Are they worth it, will I see a differance, will they harm the engine ? If it is a good mod what brand, K&N, oiled, dry ? Thanks for the input

IMO you should save your money and buy a few more gallons of gas as you will not acheive either goal by doing it.

Put one on my 4.6L '98 F150. Waste of time and money and now I have a filter I pull off once a year, wash, dry and then re-oil - takes a whole afternoon.
Saw absolutly no improvement including sound with it's installation.
As usual YMMV.

Any thing more than a good tune-up and maintenance, is a waste of time and money. More power and gaining mileage is an oxymoron. Power requires fuel.

They can help but only if you can also increase the exhaust side flow. on a 2003 I doubt you improve it much since the factory already did. On older vehicles they can and do help if Exhaust, Intake and Cats are changed and have improved flow over the stock Parts. I think you would have to go back to about 1996 or older setups to see the benefits on these changes. A good Tuner may be more of a benefit because it can adjust the timing, Fuel mixture. Most new cars and trucks are tuned Lean from the factory to reduce emissions. Lean mixture rob power and affects efficiency. A Proper Tune and mixture should help HP and economy.

you'll see a diffrence if put on a dyno. however you will have no "seat of the pants" feeling and an increase in mpg is not likely. However an intake and exhaust combo will change that.

A CAI is unlikely to add any power or mpg.
Read this, it's been tested:
