Hey everyone I'm new to rving and need a little help with my equalizer hitch. First off my hitch has the 1000 lb bars, and their is 5 washers installed. My loaded tongue weight is about 1000 lbs.
The hitch transfered about 200lbs back to the tt axles, 900lbs to my tv drive axle and lightened the steer axle up 100lbs.
I would like to take a little more weight off the drive axle. It is getting close to the rear axle load limit and my gvwr, but not over.
My question is how wuch does adding washers help to distribute weight? Would adding 2 washers transfer another 100 lbs between the steer axle and tt axles or would I need heavier bars? The dealer told me that its fine and dont worry about it. Seemed like they were pushing me out to get the next guy ready to load up.
Do you guys think my setup is fine or would it be a good idea to transfer a little more weight?
I'd add one more washer, and reweigh. If still close, add another washer. Increasing bar size is NOT the answer if your tongue weight really is under 1000#.
Just for interest our Equalizer has 7 washers in it. Yes, I want my front TV axle weight to INCREASE, at least slightly, and my rear GAWR to not be exceeded. Works for us.

Sorry, good question, I didn't keep previous numbers on weights. I DO know I add washers until front and rear of TV drop by about the same amount. Only a bit more drop in rear. Some say that method is no longer valid, but it has worked great for me for over 100,000 miles with my Equalizer so I use it.
Yah, I've bin kind of seeing that trend too. Seems like alot of manufacturers are recommending the steer axle be a bit lighter when hooked up. To me that doesn't make much sense. I think I'm going to try and get the weight back to stock or maybe 50 lbs or so heavier than stock.
