I've found a pop up truck camper for sell that I'm interested in. Its almost new, except the pump on the cass toilet runs, but gurgles and does'nt pump.

Now I know absolutly nothing about these new cassette tolets. Does this sound like a deal breaker?? Exactly how do they work? Do they unload from the outside??

CT'sound like the way to go in a TC, but what is their downfall, what are their Cons??

Used extensively in Australia. I cannot think of anyone using a holding tank here in such a relatively small RV. Several types of Cassettes available, I do not think it is the case in the US.

Had a 1995 pop up that had a cessette toilet with the water tank. When i filled mine i filled the tank and left the lid off untill i got it to pump water into the bowl. Then i would add more water to the tank and put the lid on. What brand is it? Should be able to find a service manual some where for it.

Supply Tank is dry or the pump is bad one of the two. Confirm before purchase is all. Cassette toilets are the way to go in my opinion. My next camper will have one too. If there is a downfall it is a small tank. Pros are you can dump them almost anywhere. Don't need a dump station for black water. Pit toilet or any home style toilet will do.

Good luck

Is it a Thetford Cassette toilet, do you extract the bottom section out thru a door in the side or back of the camper.

If it is a Thetford cassette, there is a sight tube to show if you have water in the tank, open the cassette door of the camper and the tube will be there beside the fill spout for the tank....

This type works really well. We have never had a problem, all parts are easy to work on and quite simple.

My .02 -
I had this problem, the pump seized, only 2 wires.
Cost $50 and replaced it in less than 10 minutes.
Its hidden under the toilet paper holder.

Nothing "new" about cassette toilets. They've been around for at least 12 years, probably longer.

European RVs are frequently equipped with them. They're not very popular in the USA for some reason. Whether it's RV manufacturers refusing to install them, or RV buyers refusing to purchase them...

Maybe people would just rather deal with the "stinky slinky" to get rid of their poo, rather than walk around a campsite with a big box o' $#!t...

I know when I dumped mine the first time there was some serious foulness going on... Previous owner left me a "present" in the cassette.

The cassett can be heavy for some folks, 40 lbs full. Emptying them can be unpleasent/ messy. Only hold 5 gal. Fill up quickly.
