Fred meyer card will now always give 10 cents off, and as you buy stuff the reward can be as much as a dollar, but that is a one time discount based on the accumulated points for the month. You get the Fred Meyer 10 cents at shell stations as well (in Anchorage at least), although I find most shell stations to be higher priced.

Fred Meyer is part of the Kroger chain, and will accept the discount cards from other Kroger affiliates. We used our King Sooper card (Denver area Kroger affiliate) while there.
At Homer if you like boondocking there is beach camping on right side before you start out on the spit. $10.00 day I think. My type of camping. Also X2 on Williwa and the Whittier excursion. Try the bluecheese burger out by the ferry pier. lots of history

In 2010, I found Girdwood had cheapest fuel around. Also has dump station and good water fill up. Girdwood is south of Anchorage and before Willawa and Portage. I could fill up at Girdwood, go down to Kenai area, tour around and make it back to Girdwood.

Speaking of Girdwood, the Alyeska Ski Lodge allows overnight parking in their parking lot for $10. Also, the Coal Creek Mine in that area allows overnight parking for $10, but it's several miles up a dirt and gravel road, which may make it tough for big rigs. Both of these are a good stop either going to or coming from the Kenai if you want to avoid the immediate Anchorage area campgrounds or RV parks.
Now that we are in Alaska I thought that I would share what we found. We decided to first go to Seward and stayed at Stoney Creek RV Campground. Outside city but had full hook ups very nice laundry room and even walked our dog for us. Went to Exit Glacier, aquarium downtown did wildlife cruise with Kenai Fjord Tours and a half day of Silver Salmon fishing. Also lots of places to hike. Then on to Cooper's Landing where we stayed at Kenai River RV Resort. Only had electric and water and their dump station was out of order. Sites were small. Manager very helpful with fishing tips. Ate at Kenai Grill which was very good and huge portions. Red Salmon were running down in Soldotna so we ended up driving in to Soldotna several times. Fished in Cenntenial Park. Then on to Homer. Great little town, we stayed at Heritage RV Park again full hook ups. Sites on beach are for pull in sowewere on back of park. Very nice staff have dog walking service. Also freezers forstoring fish until you are ready to ship. Went Halibut fishing with Bob's Trophy Charters and everyone caught their limit. Visited Pratt Museum. Also drove up the East End Road, beautiful scenery. We shipped 56 lbs of fish home from here. Finally on to Ninilchik stayed at Scenic RV PArk. Extremely friendly staff with good suggestions on fishing and clamming. Ninilchik is however very small mostly fishing charters, wildlife viewing and clamming. Some hiking. I am sure there are other good places to stay but I feel that we made good choices with the ones mentioned above. Also depends on fish running schedules if you plan to fish. Thanks to everyone who provided information, we've had a great time so far.
... and thank YOU for coming back and telling us about your trip! Wish more folks would do that...
