What everyone else said. It's not the worst thing that could have happened.

make sure all of the tank valves are closed..
put a tablespoon of rid-x in each drain and the commode. flush/run some water in each.
leave the black tank valve closed when using a full hook-up park.
when the black tank is almost full. close the gray tank valves for a day.
dump the black tank, close the valve flush the hose out with the gray water.
leave the valves open until the next time the black tank needs dumped.
or close em all if your going to be traveling..

Why sterilize? Why clean them? They are all holding tanks. Many older RV's only had one tank and the only problem was the size of the tank and that you could hold much more with differing needs with two or three tanks. Just use them as normal and enjoy!

Everyone, thank you for the helpful knoledge and for putting my mind at ease! I appreciate the quick feedback. This seems to be a great site to share information and learn. The wife and I are looking forward to many happy hours in this 5er when we retire.

Dog Catcher, I would use a combination of bleach and water to clean the tray in the water compartment so it is clean, more important at this point than the tanks, which are fine..in IMHO...Chuck

The movie RV came to my mind. You won't have any problems. Just use as normal after a good rinse out and 'closing of the valves'. Have fun and enjoy!

Add another twist-on valve to the main discharge port and if you forget again you won't have a "surprise" to deal with. $20 well spent!

Just a small word of warning - for anyone who feels compelled to "sanitize" their tanks with bleach (they're WASTE TANKS!) - never forget that bleach plus ammonia (urine) = Toxic/highly irritating gasses.
