When I read this title, my first thought was, "How can anyone forget to close the tank valves". To which, the little guy named Conscience instantly replyed, "The same way you forgot to unplug the electric cord before driving off". I instantly came to, & thought, oh yah, I can see how that could happen.
As a friend once told me, thats the stuff memories are made of.

You can get it here although if you shop around you can probably find it for a better price.

Why sterilize? Why clean them? They are all holding tanks. Many older RV's only had one tank and the only problem was the size of the tank and that you could hold much more with differing needs with two or three tanks. Just use them as normal and enjoy!

Ding, ding, ding.........what he said!

LOL. I have to LMAO when I see people that talk about sterilizing tanks. It's a freaking tank with poo in it! Why does it need to be sterilized? As soon as it's used it's aaaaaaaaaa, unsterilized again!

It's a wonder people find time to go on trips. Sterilizing tanks. Checking tire pressure at every stop. Checking torque on lug nuts every 75 miles. Turning off propane at every fillup. Turn on propane after filling up. Lighting everything up after fillup.

Do people ever get to camp?

I'm not at all sure what Dog's issue is here. That might just be because I only have one drain tank...

Your lucky someone didn't see the stinky stuff coming out at the campground. I would have thought the smell would have been noticed! Nothing to do now, it happens.

make sure all of the tank valves are closed..
put a tablespoon of rid-x in each drain and the commode. flush/run some water in each.
leave the black tank valve closed when using a full hook-up park.
when the black tank is almost full. close the gray tank valves for a day.
dump the black tank, close the valve flush the hose out with the gray water.
leave the valves open until the next time the black tank needs dumped.
or close em all if your going to be traveling..

What possible value would adding Rid-X glean the OP? Rid-X is an enzyme formula for septic tanks. Not holding tanks. They do nothing for a system that continuously gets dumped. They work in septics to create good bacteria over time...this will not do anything useful in an RV holding tank. Your suggestion is a lot of work for little to no value added.
