Morning,

Before heading out for our first trip this year, I plan on adding
water to the black tank. I need ideas on what kind of cleaner or
solution to add to clean, deodorize ect...to let swish around while
on the road.

I appreciate any ideas.
Thanks!!

In the past, I would throw in a bag of ice just to help break loose any "unmentionalbes." I never had a problem with odor as I typically would really give the camper a good rinsing at the last camping trip of the year.

I use Calgon and a little vinegar. I have found lately that the crystal type Calgon is getting harder to find. I open the flap and dump in what might be half a cup. I rinse it down the toilet real well so the crystals don't stick to the rubber seal. I do this every time I empty the tank. Keeps it ready for the next trip.

Consider trying The Geo Method.

I use laundry soap and some laundry softener. Seems to work pretty good

Nothing but water needed. There is no need to "clean" a sewage holding tank.

When I winterize I drain my black tank completely, then add a little rv antifreeze. In the spring I dump a bag of ice down the toilet and about 8oz of Dawn dish detergent before I head out on the first trip.

I"ve never found ANY chemical to put in a black tank that would be an acceptable odor inside my bathroom. Best to make CERTAIN that the black tank NEVER is left dry (antifreeze in the winter and water in the summer) so solids do not turn to stone and become a source of odors. Solids that have turned to stone are nearly impossible to remove so keep them wet ALWAYS.

I use about 1/3 cup of the cheapest laundry soap I can find an a cap full of calgon water softener. I put it in every trip after I dump the black tank and it gets swirled around on my way to my next camping trip. When I enpty the black tank, I make sure I'm 3/4 full or more and I've never had anything stick to it or any clogs. Cheap insurance from the black clog and helps keep is smelling better than it would if it sits a few weeks or a month without use.
