I have a 2011 KZ Sportsmen toy hauler and I plan to clean and UV treat the roof this month, along with a good waxing on the walls. Would it be advisable as a proactive measure to apply Eternabond tape to the various seams in the roof while the caulking is still in good shape? It seems as if it will have to be done at some point, and I'm just thinking it would be easier before I have to remove old caulking and go through issues associated with a roof leak.

Very good idea, I am in the process of doing just that.

I'm doing the eternabond PM to my trl roof this weekend. The skylight, vents, front & rear seams, and the roof edge front to rear on both sides. I do the roof edges after having scraped a tree branch on the roof edge and getting a hole in the roof.

Absolutely! If you do it now, you will never have to re-seal or worry about any roof leaks. I wish we had known about Eternabond on our first motorhome.

Do you have to scrape the caulk off or do you apply it over the caulk?

I have done the same thing using the Dicor 4 inch by 50 ft roll of tape. I called tech support at Dicor and they said get it clean and wipe the surface down with rubbibg alcohol before installation right over Dicor caulking. Feel it was a good peace of mind upgrade.

You do not have to scrape the old caulking off prior to applying the eternabond tape. This is specified on their website. You do need to clean the area around it to get good adhesion. I did mine this weekend. I first washed the entire roof and rinsed it really well. Then I let it dry for a day. Then I cleaned around each seam using the spray cleaner that I purchased from eternabond. I then applied the tape following their instructions. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

So I checked out Eternabond's website, and I think the standard roofseal tape apperars to be the one to get. I notice they have it in numerous widths, starting at 2". I would think 4" would be about the right width. What are opinions about the width?

The 4" will be just right. I did my trailer about 7 years ago when it was still just about new. I went right over the caulking.
