Which Vancouver?

Washington or Canada?

Thanks for all you suggestions, we do intend heading due north so places like Truckee and Chowchilla seem rather out of the way don't you think?

It's only 160 miles North on I-5 to Redding from your starting point. That's the only boring part of the trip. Once you're North of Redding you get into hill country and it's much nicer. You can take 97 at Weed and head up through Klammath Falls. That takes you near Crater Lake too.

Once you get to Vancouver, there are a couple of RV places in town but I've never tried them.

I have camped at Holiday Trails RV in Bridal Falls and it was great! That area is spectacular - it's near Harrison Hot Springs, lots of hiking in the area, gorgeous scenery. There are RV parks right in Harrison as well. That's about 2 hours from downtown Vancouver.

Fort Langley RV park is nice looking - a bit barren since it's all grass but then you don't get a lot of flat ground in Vancouver so that's always nice. It could be a good base for seeing the area - it's about an hour's drive to the downtown core from there.

Enjoy your trip!

Off topic, but how has towing the Porsche worked out? We have a Boxster and it would be fun having it along, but I've worried about road damage. So we've towed an older Mazda pickup truck.

Guerneville is off Highway 101. I think you meant Vacaville.

Our Porsche is standard and we had a special plate put in front with hooks to connect to our Sterling tow arm. Between the RV and car we have a screen that deflects any road damage.."Protect-a-Tow" is the manufacturer. The only real problem is the 10" drop from the RV to the car...the screen eventually gets shredded..we have been towing the Porsche from Tampa across country for over a year.

Balfre, hope you got to the Nut Tree for the bakery and mini-train ride (fun even for adults). Pietro's#2 for pizza if it is still there. If you do go up the 505 to the 5, stop at Granzella's in Williams for all the olive products and just to reload the refer. GSWGCI has some good recommendations for Border area camping, although cutting over to 101 is tempting. Safe Travels
