When the Alladin was new, all of the movable joints had a lot of friction and zero play. The arms would stay up by themselves, it took some muscle to spread the arms apart, etc. Now with 15,000 miles on the towbar, the joints all move very freely and have a small amount of play in them. Is this normal, or do I have some abnormal wear?

Normal...but if you would like it tight again Blue Ox has a tune up kit. Even better if you attend most rallys they usually have techs there that do it for a reasonable price.

You might want to have Blue Ox take a look at that at a rally. They will inspect and tune it up for almost nothing. My first Aladdin tow bar was deemed unrepairable and I had to replace it with far fewer miles than yours on it. The early 5000lb all aluminum bars are the one's to watch out for.

I've got to go along with offthewall. When they go, it is rather quickly. We had to replace an aluminum one in Traverse City, Mi. because of the liability. The shop would not work on it. Said they send it back to the factory for a rebuild. Marvh

I just noticed that on our new Alladin too, which is rated 7500 lbs, I remember the dealer telling me that it would loosen up over time when purchased last year. So I guess it is normal indeed?

I have an Alum Alladin tow bar. It's rated at 5000 lbs. We are using it to tow our little 94 Honda. What sort of problems would I look for on a long, (9K miles) tow? Right now everthing is tight as described above. What's likey to change?
