I have been storing my FW in a commercial storage yard for the past 7 years. This due to HOA restrictions. I have never had an issue until last week when I went by to do a weekly check up. I found that another RV owner had decided that he needed my spare tire. Not only did he take the tire, he took the cover and the lug nuts. Trusting as I am, I never placed locking lug nuts on the spare tire. Not only did he take my tire, he took the adhesive stick on license tag off the plate. Needless to say, I will be a little more careful how I store in the future. Thought I might elert others who use commercial storage of the potentials.

If it's another RV storage renter you should be able to find your license tab, as it is numbered. Maybe you would even recognize your tire!
We had a stored car stripped less than a week after storing it in a 'secure' storage area once. The perps went over the 8' fence, it wasn't an inside job. They knew exactly what parts they wanted and came and got them. I think 'secure storage' is a a contradiction in terms.

The lot where we store had a sophisticated security system including a fiber sensor that ran the length of the chain link fencing. If anyone touched the fence the alarm would go off in the live on the site manager's residence.
They could then access the camera system to see what was going on in every inch of the facility.
Unfortunately, some thieves cut the fiber system. They then waited to see if it would be repaired. The company that installed the security system had gone out of business plus the manufacturer of the fiber system was out of business. After 2 weeks of not being repaired the thieves cut through the chain link fence and broke into several RVs. Luckily ours wasn't hit.
The fiber system has now been replaced by a motion sensor setup hooked up to the cameras.

Ewww, so sorry to hear about that, I wouldn't have given it a thought (lug nuts now on list of must haves).
I have a question though, regarding the plate...obviously it has to be ON the rig when it is on the road, but could it merely be WITH the rig in storage (say, the kitchen counter or somewhere easy to remember)? It might be a city/county/state thing, but ours is parked behind our house on the driveway - very easily accessible - I think I'm putting it behind a locked door now, just to be safe.

After just getting new two year tags the month before, I had the license plate taken off my trailer while in secure storage. When they took the plate they broke the tabs of the bottom of the tail light.
I designed a sheet metal bracket with 1/4" press fit threaded studs. Attached that to the trailer and use wing nuts to keep in place while traveling. When stationary it easily comes off.

After having my truck's tag stolen many, many moons ago, I started scraping off the old stickers before applying the new one. Seems that, after a few years, a razor makes it real easy to just peel off the tag by going between the layers of the old tags. I've also seen more than one plate with the validation tags stuck all over them, so they're all directly on the plate. :-)

I cannot store at home either, but after seeing the cost and "security" at commercial storage lots I went searching for options.
For more than 10 years we have stored truck and trailer in a steel building on a farm 12 miles from home. Inside, secure, we have a key, and the cost is half of an outside commercial lot.
