Skyfarmer wrote: How do you bank while traveling across the country? Go with a national bank like BoA or Wells..or keep your local? What issues do you encounter?
What kind of banking are you looking to do while traveling?
Pay bills......on-line banking. Secure, easy, no hassles.
Get cash......cash back at just about any grocery store, Walmart etc.
Deposits......send via snail mail to your bank if no ATM/Bank available
Use debit/credit......
Haven't run into any issues past 5 yrs. traveling FT.
We bank the same way now that we did before hitting the road.
Rarely went/go to an actual bank in years.

I use Bank America...no complaints. Lots of ATM's (not everywhere...but no bank is), a superb phone banking system.

Since we prefer to roam the West, we've used Wells Fargo for our seven years of full timing, and do everything via the internet. The customer service has always been exceptional, and being retired military they have perks such as no ATM fees for other banks.

I use a fully Internet bank -- ING Direct. Never a problem. 30,000 free ATM's around the country. They recently added the online check-deposit thing, where you attach a jpeg of the check.
Unfortunately they were bought by Capital One, and who knows what will happen next. But a far cry better than the crooks at BOA, whose left hand never knew what the right hand was doing.

X2. Excellent service. Haven't seen the inside of a bank in over 10 years because of the great services offered.

We do internet banking. If gone more than a few days, we have the PO hold our mail.

We use a combination of a regional bank that offers free online bill paying and no ATM fees nationwide, and a credit union that accepts check scanning for deposits and higher savings account rates. We use the regional bank's ATM's when it's convenient to do so, but I think the last time I actually walked into an office was a few years ago when I needed something notarized.
