I love the input to my question--And I can't wait to here the responses to this question--I will willing admit that I am not a truck quy so probably a silly question but I'll ask it anyhow--Why does my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Plus cab-short bed weigh any different than anyone elses?????? Aren't we talking minimal weigh differneces???

Look at the following post from Ricochet (posted 5/9/12).
I'd say you are firmly in the #3 category.
ricochet wrote: "Having said that you are always going to have 3 types of folks towing.
1 is the GVWR guys who use the safety ratings set forth by the manufacture. I'm one of them.
2 is the RAWR guys who stay under the rear axle ratings which is most likely the same as your tire ratings. Logic is its legal in most states.
3 is the guys who don't believe in ratings period and would tow a Grand Teton with whatever they happened to own.
Just me but 3k pin is where I draw the line between the SRW and DRW trucks. Although the last couple of years the SRW 35 series trucks have made some big gains in payloads due to the bigger wheels and tires.
Good luck with your decision.

- Gas vs diesel - around 700#
- 2WD vs 4WD - maybe 400#
- Plus cab vs Mega cab - maybe 300#
- 5'6" bed vs 8' bed - another 300#
All out of the same GVWR.
Maybe you can now answer your own question

Oh no! Mega cab! I missed that when I looked at the picture of your rig. The Dodge Mega cab has lousy tow numbers. I have to retract my earlier post about weights.
Here is the issue, the curb weight is 7331 so you will weigh around 7800 pounds ready to tow, leaving 1200 pounds for pin weight. Rear axle is a couple hundred pounds heavier cutting into pin weight if you disregard the GVWR.
Better stay with what you have now.

X2 nlscooby The only difference between 2500 and 3500 is the overload and the "3"

Dusty,
With all due respect, you are incorrect here. I have owned several Dodge Cummins trucks (both 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks). My truck was available as a 3/4 ton and 1 ton version with (literally) the ONLY difference being the rear overload springs (oh, and the "3" instead of the "2" just before the _500 on the door!)
Perhaps you are thinking of 1/2 ton trucks versus 3/4 ton and 1 tons?
1/2 tons are quite different!
