Hi. I have a 1996 Dutch Star with a 230 Cummins Turbo diesel engine.
Had to replace a leaking brake hose. What type of brake fluid is recommended for this unit. Thanks.

It normally says what to use on the cap of the reservoir but in that era Dot 3 was common.

DOT 3 or DOT 4 will work fine and can be mixed. It is probably a good idea to take this opportunity to flush the entire system to remove all debris and old fluid.

Do you understand how to bleed the brake system?

"Bleed", "bleeding", etc. are terms refering to the practice/process of moving brake fluid through the system, usually for the purpose of removing air or contaminated fluid.

If you do not understand what is involved, you will may have difficulties in arriving at a firm pedal.
