Ok all the Chevy owners out here has anyone installed one on their truck. I've looked at the Banks Speed Brake and the BD Diesel brake. I like the price of the BD Diesel. I'm looking for someone that has used the BD Diesel before and their thoughts

Cap,

Not a Chevy owner, but my BD Brake for my Ford has been more than satisfying. I have an older pickup (2000) but it is the best safe, secure, reduced pucker factor, etc... $$ that I have ever spent over ANY add-on for my truck.

I'd be interested in folks responses to this topic as well. I would like to do the same.

I was going to go that route however I was refereed to Killerbee Performance.( a forum member) He created a tune that made a speed brake (exhaust brake) via software. It required a new ECM that I installed myself. (very simple plug play)
Bottom line I now have a exhaust brake that works very well and was half the price of the Banks Speed brake. Basically he reprogrammed the trucks computer to activate exhaust brake without installing after market equipment Killerbee's tune works and performs like a Banks speed brake.

Fleece Performance also has one. Several after market EFI LIVE programmers like the one mentioned above can do this programing.
Here is a thread from DP on the subject. Banks Speed Brake on a 2006 LBZ Dually
GM's Medium Duty Trucks with Duramax engine have had this option in them since 2006 model year.

Reprogramming the ECM is the easiest way to go. The person programming it can write a tune specific to your needs. Killerbee fixes the DIC so it shows true MPG, adds the exhaust brake etc. You can set up a switch to toggle between several tunes and always have your stock tune to go back to if you need to pass a smog test in certain states. I prefer KillerBee, but there are others out there with great skills. IdahoRob on the the diesel forums is a standout also.

What year is your truck? The earlier duramax engines didn't have the variable vain turbos.
Pacbrake is another exhaust brake.

It could have been as cheap as $399.00 For an exhaust brake only tune.

I kept my old ECM (Electronic Control Module) vs. returning it for a core charge refund.($300.00 credit upon return) I also had a single stage tune 499.00 vs 399.00 for exhaust brake only tune.

So I paid $799.00 total. I can still return my original ECM for a partial refund and reduce that figure $200.00 or so.

$399.99 is what you can pay a tuner to create a ECM speed brake for you.

I had my tune created by Killerbee Performance
