Tom...be careful what you post about the incident on a public forum. As an example, you opening statement makes it sound like it was your fault. Until all the facts are in, someone could take advantage of what you have to say. Get with your own insurance agent and discuss the situation. Take pictures of both the damage and if possible where the accident occurred. Work with your own insurance company for advice. Just my opinion.

Ditto! Especially about contacting your own insurance company--they will likely go to bat for you as they don't want pay a claim if it was not your fault.

Tom - slow down. Call the police department and ask about the process for obtaining an accident report. It may take 7-10 days before copies are available. Expect a fee for the copy.

Report the incident to your insurer.

Take the MH to a couple of body shops for estimates. Most likely the body damage can be repaired and repainted rather than replaced. Don't waste your time fighting for replacement if it can be repaired. You will not win even after spending a couple of years in litigation and a lot of money on a lawyer.

If the SF agent's (as in - person acting on behalf of SF)quote is far lower than the other estimates, something is wrong somewhere and don't be surprised if it is the body shop jacking the price up on you with crazy labor estimates. Often, signing the check is a settlement of ALL claims so if something is discovered that was unknown at the time of the estimates, you have no recourse. Have the body shop work directly with SF. If hidden things are discovered you haven't signed away your rights to have it repaired by endorsing the SF check.

Of course, you can negotiate a 'partial payment' agreement whereby you retain the right to request the hidden repairs for X amount of days. But, if it isn't reduced to writing formally by SF, it is worthless.

You should have no problems getting the MH repairs paid by the girl's insurance.

"You should have no problems getting the MH repairs paid by the girl's insurance."

It depends on how MUCH Liability insurance she carried. If she had the mandated minimum, she may not have enough to cover a large vehicle like a high scale motorhome. That will be interesting to see. Doug

NO Insurance company have adjusters that are knowledgeable or have ANY info on how to estimate or fix costs on Damage to an RV. There are NO BOOKS or ONLINE info to estimate parts and labor at all. They rely on RV collision shops to get that info and then approve the Estimate. ANY offer or estimate they may give you without a RV collision shop estimate will NOT be any way close to the real cost. So, you need to get your own Estimates from a RV collision repair facility before you accept any offer from the insurance company. Your RV is 16 years old and the parts will be extremely expensive if you can even get them from Monaco. We just ordered a bathroom window from Monaco for a customer's 2006 Cayman----- $1100, just for the window. Doug

Really NOT TRUE

Had a road alligator hit the front of my MH on a trip last year. I reported it to Progressive that day and within a few hours a adjuster called (on my cell). When I got back home a few weeks later a adjuster came out and did a surrey, took pictures and asked where I wanted it fixed. I knew of one so I chose a large MH dealer about 75 miles away. He then suggested that I call and make an appointment for the repair - I did later that day.

Less than a week later a check arrived (for $8000+) and a copy of the repair estimate. I took the MH and repair estimate to the dealer. During repair some hidden damage (to rear AC ducts) was found so another check for $2000+ arrived.

When the repairs/paint/etc was finished I picked up the MH and endorsed the checks over to the Dealer/repair shop. There was no question about the cost estimate and the total of the 2 checks was accepted without comment. The Bill was marked PAID IN FULL.

That does NOT mean the adjuster did his job. FYI, we are at the point where we will NOT deal with Progressive on Insurance claims anymore as they do NOT have experianced adjusters for RV work and they LOW BALL every fair estimate we give them. They cause up to 2 months delay in getting the job done due to LOW BALL and having to approve every supplemental repair when their low ball does not include the items we listed. YOU are NOT an expert and the fact you got an Adjuster from Progressive that obviously did his TOTAL job is NOT a fair assessment of HOW RV insurance adjusters work. I have been doing this for 33 years and I know a LOT more about what I talk about than almost all people on these forums. The odds are the Progressive adjuster took his pics and notes to an RV or collision shop and had THEM estimate to costs and then he wrote the checks based on THAT, NOT his work. We get requests like that all the time. Doug

Get in touch with your insurance company, let the two insurers fight it out. My experience has been that the agents and/or adjusters may work with their clients to frame the incident in such away that it is not their fault, then come to your insurer.

In one case, a kid backed down the side of my parked car, the mother and agent came up with a story that we were both moving and I moved into the kid.

The way you describe your accident, you condition is much more precarious, it could be argued that you also were not in sufficient control to avoid the accident and there may be at least partial responsibility. You want the pros at your insurance company working your side of it, which they will do to save themselves on the claims.

Until you have brought your insurer into the picture, you do not want to accept anything from anyone representing the other person's insurer. You may not be able to keep them from looking at the damage, but you sure don't want to take a settlement on their terms until you know what is really going on.

follow up on my hail damage..State Farm is paying the full estimate and sending me a check. A side note,,, The adjuster added a note that mine was one of the cleanest 10 old RV he'd seen (my agent says they don't usually comment)

Good to hear things worked out to your satisfaction!

Nice of your insurance guy to put that little note in, too- should serve as a good record with the insurance company that you take good care of the property you're insuring with them.

However...I see by your Avatar that you're a member of my Tribe.
As a Fellow Redneck I feel obliged to warn you that if things get TOO tidy, we may have to rethink your status/standing.
