guns and radar detectors are both HUGE no no's here

an 85 yr old guy was jailed for several months here for trying to bring in handguns in his motorhome then they deported him minus motorhome and guns

Coming back in from Canada, we have been asked about dog food--dry or wet-- and citrus fruit. Also, no firewood going or coming back. If you have a pet, you should probably have a health certificate from your vet. We get one every year, and have been asked for it a couple of times. Better safe than sorry. Enjoy Canada!!

I am thinking of a trip up there this summer. I have a show dog that I feed food made in Canada, First Mate made in BC, Canada. So how is that going to work for me if I can't bring his dry dog food back to the US? Switching food on a trip is just asking for the runs. This food is not that easy to find.

Make sure all the ingredients are listed and check on the latest bulletins. The last few years I have crossed, lamb has been the issue and that is what the customs people said was the only issue over the last few years but who knows as sometimes these bans change quick.

I'm thinking that since you 're getting the food in the U.S., it should be fine.

Might want to save your U.S. receipt for whatever you've got on board, just in case there's any confusion caused by the "Canada" label.

Seriously, this has been my experience. I know and love lots of Americans, but your border guards are a total pain in the a$$, so much more so than ours.

It's a cultural thing- we Americans as a PEOPLE are bigger pains in the a$$ than Canadians would ever think about being. We're also a lot more paranoid about the whole world being out to get us.

Or it could just be a holdover reaction from that little kerfuffle about our border way back when...which as I recall, Canada WON!

...

The way I see it there are two problems.

First Mad Lamb Disease.

Then atrocious prices for easy-to-fake, rinky-dink passports.

I have no idea why on the lamb but as long as your food is made in the USA it is no problem. We always check the labels or buy it when we are south. The customs guys always read the labels when thwy check pet food and that is what they are checking for. One of the customs officers told me people miss that one a lot of the time. Everyone is aware of fruits and veggies but get caught on pet food.

So it's the American border patrol folks who are so up tight over lamb?

Then presumably as long as I have a bag of dry food, made and bought in the US, I should be good to go?
