It's been a year since my Ultra Fab tongue jack died and I'm tired of hand cranking. I'm looking to purchase a Barker 3500, but not sure whether to get the 18" or 24" stroke.

24" never may need it but if you do, it will be priceless

A 24" would give you the added length for most any scenario, but we use a 8" tongue jack stand from CW with our 18" Barker 3500, and never encountered a situation where we needed more. Either way, you will be happy with your Barker.

When I had a TT the second thing I purchased for the trailer was a Barker 3500 with 24" shaft and was very happy that I had the extra lift, its worth it.

24" and at least a 3500# model. The bigger the better!

I just went through the same decision, went with the 24" and am very glad I did, the extra reach has already proven to be necessary.

If you are spending $200, spend $250 for the longer one. But I an happy with my $100 refurbished Ultrafab 3502 for under $100 shipped and 4x 2x4s nailed together.

Get the 18 and just buy a 6X6X6 cinder block at Lowe's and spend the remainder of the savings on a new rod and reel + a six pack.

With the 24" there is one less thing to have to worry about -- where did that cinder block go? This is especially helpful if you would need it to unhitch, and you are dropping it at a dealer for service using the night drop (ask me how I know. ).

I went 18" for the mere fact I tow a golf cart and have to leave my tailgate propped open so the extra 6" height of the 24" would have been problematic. No problem putting some lynx levelers with a 6x6x6 on top. I prefer to keep the shaft length short anyways. Just seems stressful to see a long extended shaft holding up the tongue. Did I just write that
