I have the Ready Brute Elite with integrated brake and I recently noticed that the plastic coating over the wire on the brake cable was worn away exposing a portion of cable. It appears to be rubbing as it goes through the oval hole before you hook to the brake. I don't know how to explain this very well.
Has anyone else had a problem like this with the brake cable and what did you do?

I don't know, my unit is just plane old wire, twisted. I replacemine about a year ago when it broke where it went thru the fire wall of toad. cost about $3.00 for the new one. Bill

It's the barrier (wall) that separates the inside of the car from the engine compartment.

Yes, I have had problems with the cable chaffing a lot against the "oval hole" on the ready brute itself. The first thing that helped has to take a dremal tool and take any of the sharp edges off of the 1/4" steel that makes up the area around the hole. In my case, I still wasn't super happy with the results, so I attached a Teflon block with a hole in it. Other folks have come up with other ideas to keep the cable from chaffing...

Ok, you've both got me puzzled. Exactly where is this "oval hole" located?

Since I am on the road and have only a few power tools with me, what would be the simplest way to protect the cable? Where did you put the Teflon block with the hole in it?

The cable is enclosed in a protected braided wire sleeve and should not be rubbing on anything. What exactly is rubbing and what is it rubbing on? The only place it could be rubbing is where the wire exits the sleeve at. That hooks to the exposed unprotected cable. Is that cable the one that is rubbing on something. Are you talking about the "Stow Strap" (item 13) in the pics on pages 8, 10, and 11 of the installation instructions? If you are having a problem there, I suggest you call them with your problem at (800) 933-3372. The Ready Brake support is excellent and I am sure that they will be more than willing to help you out.

RVerDiane, I have the same issue. since you are on the road, just line the oval hole with duck tape, overlapping the edges of the bracket.
Others, the oval hole is through the bracket that is used to hook the tow bar up when in the storage mode. The cable goes through it from the car to the bell crank arm.
