I'm wondering if Durabond tape totally replaces caulking? I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to replace the long strips of caulking on each side of the roof with Durabond tape instead?

Any comments?

Thanks

Chris

EternaBond. You can scrape off some of the old caulking and put EternaBond in it's place. Or leave the existing caulk in place, clean it good and cover it with EternaBond.

Durabond, Eternabond, and Dicor sealing tapes are all made for sealing "rubber roofs". I do not believe there is ten cents worth of difference in any of them, just personal preferrence.

I've used the Eternabond and it works great. However you don't want to use it where it visible. Not as cosmetic as well applied color matched chaulking.

JMHO but this is a case of you get what you pay for. RV builders that are starting to use tape for sealing have been going to Durabond and the Dicor brand. WHY? They cost less. We have found that while Eternabond costs more it's failure rate if applied correctly is zero.
We have several folks in the extended camping family that have had failures with the other two used as OEM.
We have two coaches going on 15 years with Eternabonded seams with no leaks and no maintenance.

"Caulking" is what you do when you apply "Caulk". Just an observation.

You tweeked my curiosity. Which rv manufacturers are using Tape as opposed to caulking?

Eternabond does not look bad when properly applied. I used it around all of the roof seams where they met the walls on my '96 Pace Arrow and it was very visible from the ground. It was a nice white 4" strip all around the MH and looked good. I also never had a leak.

Jayco uses it on slide roofs. Since they have been having problems with the tape failing, I suspect either they are using a brand inferior to Eternabond or are skimping on surface prep (or both).

Thanks for replies/comments. So basically if the surface is prepared properly and you use a good quality tape it works as well as, or better than caulking?

Thanks

Chris
