I have a hallmark vail pop up camper. Its pretty light weight. I have good tie downs for the front but don't have rear tie downs. But the guy I bought it from did give me brackets that bolt to the rear bumpers. Just not sure if I should do that or not. I'll be taking it on some fire roads and potentially a little rougher. Don't want to ruin my bumper if it can't handle it. Its an 08 f250.

I have a F-350 dually with a 4k camper. I use the Happijac tie down system that includes the rear attachments to the rear bumper. 200k miles with the camper and the rear attachments and the bumper are still there.

For less than $250.00 you can have a frame mounted no drill tie-down with Torklift rear tie-downs. Tweetys.com has them free shipping right now. If you mess up your bumper it will cost allot more than that.

Yes you can use them but the bumpers on the later model Fords need a diagonal support. You can buy them but a couple of lengths of one inch angle iron are all that are necessary.
You can spend $250 for frame mounted Torklifts but your tie down will still not be any stronger than the 3/8 inch eyebolt screwed into the bottom of the camper.

Get the TorkLifts. There have been numerous posts about Ford bumpers bending when using mounting points on them.

X2, That's exactly what I was thinking as I read this post.

I have been using bumper buttons for rear tiedowns for years and not one single problem.

I'm not sure why you would use front mounted frame mounts and bumper mounted rear mounts. I think you should go one way or the other, so in this case, add the rear frame mounts.
Obviously, both types of mounts work for at least a few people.

Our experience with the bumper tiedowns was good ... that is, everything held together. BUT, the rear bumper did twist a few degrees, and it was a noticeable annoyance. This was on Ford 150. We moved to torklifts on the Chevy 2500, and are happier with them. So, in summary, if you have the bucks go for the frame mounted Torklifts. If not, the bumper tie downs will work until you can afford them.
