This AM I heard those dreaded words, "Can you help me, my computer is acting strange".
OH BOY, something needs fixing. I live for this.
Had to remind DW that coffee spills on a keyboard can make the Keys stick down or up as the case may be.
She had all sorts of troubles with popup windows not working and/or opening by themselves. It was the last thing I checked when running through what I thought was the problem. With some FIRM banging to push some stuck keys down and some prying to pop others up I cured THAT problem.
Next,I found that her cheap Kensington Mouse had eaten some bad cheese and was doing weird things, so I gave her my Great Intellimouse and I got out an old Intellimouse (I never through anything out till they are broken). So, all is once again quiet.
She admitted to various spills in the past, so I guess she's been lucky.
Who could have imagined of 2 problems popping up at the same time.
Maybe a kids "Sippy Cup" would help.

LOL I always love those calls myself. One of particular favorites is the printers not working. I fimd the problem and it starts printing out reams of paper cause she's kept hitting print a dozen times. I've learned to open print mgr first and delete everything.

DW had similar problems with HP printers. I finally found the pulling the power plug from the wall, waiting a seconds, and then plugging it back in solved the problems.
It's like so many PC related problems in this day and age. A complete reboot fixes many problems. Probably the same solution in some of the newer all electronic controlled cars now a days. Maybe a big RED reboot button in cars would help.

My keyboard doesn't appreciate coffee either. At least it is an easy fix.

Most keyboards are an easy fix. I've cleaned many keyboards at work. Unplug it from the PC. Blow out as much of the dust and food particle as possible. Then give it a good soaking with Alcohol. Use the tooth brush to brush between the keys, then re-soak with Alcohol and blow it dry. The keys will pop off easily with a small flat screw driver by prying up on one side of the key.

Hey, she's lucky it didn't short out and do real damage. I guess with all the newer keyboards being membrane types, that is less likely, still, spills are bad juju.

Even though you're all fixed up, I'll mention this for the future. You CAN take the keyboard apart. Periodically I do this because we live in a dusty area. I use a letter opener or butter knife and remove all the keys on my keyboard.....being sure to set them on the table in order. You will be amazed at the dust, cat fur, food crumbs that can accumulate!!! I then use a soft paintbrush the clean the area and sometimes an alcohol pad to get the hard stuff. Put the keys back on (they just pop on and off) and away I go!!! Do this after you've used those alcohol swabs --- you'll also be amazed how much they miss!!!
I know someone that swears they put their keyboard in the dishwasher --- but I think he's pulling my leg!!

Thanks for all tip tips.
I watched a Youtube video a while back where a guy soaped one up, scrubbed it with a big brush and then put it in the washer. At the end it was toast, but he probably didn't allow it to dry thoroughly.
If hers acts up again I refer to your tips. She hate for me to tinker with her stuff unless she asks for it.

While they might not be too expensive finding a compatible one for a Laptop might not be as easy as you think. I had one go bad on my Toshiba and while it only cost around $60 shipped there were also only like one or two places that had a compatible replacement.
