I heard recently that pixi glass can be used for the lower section of the rv door in order to prevent the dogs from damaging the screening while out camping. I tried to cut a piece purchased from Home Depot but due to it being very thin (meant for the kitchen ceiling neon lights) it just shatters. This occurred each time after trying to hand cut, hand-sawing, and even with the gentle use of a rasp. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I should go about the preparation and then the inserting into the screen door? I truly prefer to make quilts, but will give any challenge a shot. Thank you so much for any suggestions.

Acrylic is very brittle also. Look for Lexan.

I'm pretty sure ours is 3/16 inch thick plexiglas from a big box store. I cut it with a jig saw on slow speed. Fast speed will cause the material to melt. Same for drilling holes; slow speed. Some attach the material with velcro; I used round head screws with nylon washers.

Usually for ceiling panels that material is styrene and brittle.
Look for "acrylic" sheet, it usually has a thin wrap sheet on it for protection, leave this on, mark how you want it cut with a grease pencil, then purchase a "hook" blade cutter and "scratch" the surface several times with the hook cutter. Once you get a good groove in the surface, you will be able to gently bend the sheet to separate it. Practice a few cuts first. Good luck!

Real plexiglas will cut with a electric jigsaw at slow speed. Lexan is better than plexi, but more expensive and will also cut with a jigsaw. Don't know how much room you have in the door to sandwich the plexi, but I would think 1/8" would fit, although 3/16 or 1/4 would be better for the doggies. The alternative to sandwiching the plexi in the door is to surface mount it on the door with a few screws.

I used an electric Sabre saw. Was able to cut top center and bottom panels including radius corners. Velcro was used to attach to the door. These are used with the heat and A/C on so we don't have always shut the main RV door.
