Reese says to torque them to 250-300lb-ft.

250 ft/lbs if I remember correctly. I know it's a bunch.

Equal-i-zer specifies 430 Ft-lbs torque for the hitch ball.

Also the shank bolts are to be 320 Ft-lbs

Note any good big truck repair place can torque them for you. Place I went didn't even want money, but I gave him some anyway. It takes a BIG torque wrench. Remember all you need to take is the stinger/drawbar. The trailer is unneeded for that.

The ball on my Reese was 450 and the bolts on the shank were 300.

Thanks for the replys. I am putting Timberns on the truck today and will need to adjust the height of the shank. So I will torque it to 275-300 and call it a day.

The various torque settings mentioned is out of context without the thread dia

Mine came with a tag that said 450 ft/lbs, but on a smaller dia thread that would
be an over torque, which would weaken it

My Equalizer came with grade 8 bolts to attach the hitch head to the shank but regular washers and nuts. While adjusting and readjusting the hitch the washers and nuts failed and I had to hacksaw off the bolt. Then I got new grade 8 bolts, washers and nuts. No trouble since.
