My in-laws like to winter in Laughlin Nevada but don't always want to drive clear up to North Dakota during the summer. They enjoy the lifestyle in Laughlin and meeting other people who go there to winter. What are some good places that are within about 8 hours of Laughlin to spend the summer? I was thinking that Flagstaff, AZ might be good. Does Flagstaff have a lot of activities catering to retirees?

They can go west and spend the summer near the So Cal coast where the weather is mild. Plenty to see and do around So Cal.

I think you want to find altitude. New Mexico or even Northern CA in mountainous regions. Mountainous areas get hot in the sun but cool down nicely in the evening.

Best city in AZ for active seniors is Tucson...or Bullhead City!

Tucson and Bullhead are a bit too hot. They don't enjoy the water except for some occasional fishing and with California being so expensive So Cal probably wouldn't be a good fit.

I've been eyeing Santa Fe and Albuquerque, but 10 hours of drive time might be a bit much. N Cal or Southern Oregon might be good if they could find a good place to stay.

We bought a cabin in the Arizona White Mountains for our summer escape. The temperature is mild with cool evenings. It is only 5 hours from Lake Havasu where we winter. Do a few Google searches for the Show Low/White Mountains area.
