Hi Everyone. Just got a new travel trailer. Now wondering what are the most basic/important accessories to have for a long trip with the family (4yr old boy 4mo old girl). I know I'll need a hose to empty the black tank. And will have a 5 hour course with the dealer when we go over systems. But what else do you think I should buy? Suggestions?

White fresh water hoses. Good quality sewer hose and proper connectors. Different adapters foe electric hookup. The rest you will figure out as you go.

1.) look around your kitchen and see what you use every day...coffee pot/blender/toaster/whatever as appliances...plates/glasses/utensils...we have sets of this stuff to keep in the trailer all the time
2.) What do you like to eat? I've made a 'load and/or buy' list that we use and 'check off' before each trip...everything from coffee to oatmeal to meat to bread to water to soda to that other frosty beverage I like...don't forget meat (if you bbq), charcoal or a full propane tank for the grill, spices and sauces for the meat, lighter fluid, long grill lighter, etc.
3.) What will you need for comfort? sheets, pillows, towels
4.) What will you need for entertainment? television? dvd player? i-pod? portable radio?
5.) what will you need to enjoy the RV? bbq grill? (make sure it fits in space available) / folding chairs (we use the $5 Academy ones)
6.) What will you need for fun? bikes / balls to play with if you have little ones / etc
7.) what will you need for sanitation? hand soap / paper towels / mop, broom and bucket / cleanser or clorox / black tank treatment / dish detergent
8.) what clothes? don't forget swimsuits...we have 'trailer' clothes that are used only while camping and come out only for washing
9.) RV itself: white fresh water hose with (if you want) an RV filter on one end and an (important) pressure regulator on the other / sewer hose with fittings / gloves to use when dumping tanks

top off the propane tanks before your trip

don't forget any meds any of your family may need

if bringing pets, adequate food...water and food dishes

hope this is useful! (FYI we travel with our five year old...his most often asked question is, 'Daddy? when are we going to the trailer again?'...it's his very favorite thing to do...just since the start of school for him in fall 2011, we've been out for 13 weekends..soooooooo, have fun!)

I'd say make sure you get a sewer hose with an elbow and "funnel" type bonnet fitting. Back in the day when we bought our first TT the sewer hose the dealer sold us didn't have one and I thought I could just run the blunt end of the hose inside the campgound or dump station pipe. First campground we stayed at our sewer hose was to big to "run inside" the campground pipe so we couldn't dump. Plus its just a more sanitary setup.

Other items that come to mind

-A small step stool will come in handy for the 4 year old.
-A water pressure regulator if you hookup to city water (w/an elbow fitting).
-leveling blocks and wheel chocks
-BBQ lighter or matches

There's a whole list of things but thats what I would consider don't go without.

You get the basics with the RV to go camping (or should). I would wait until after the purchase (pick it up) to buy anything. Then there's a thousand things you could buy, but you'll only need about 1% of what's on the market.

Plenty of TP and diapers. Don't buy the RV TP. Buy Scotts single ply 1000 sheet or similar.
Go with the Rino sewer hose available at WalMart.
Take a look at the RV section in WalMart, usually back by the sporting goods area. Most stores carry a good variety of the "basic" essentials.
Look for a water hose pressure regulator to ensure you limit inflow to 40psi.

On top of everything welcome to the forum and enjoy your new toy.

Water pressure regulator is very important. You may get one with your starter pack, but if not get one. IMHO get a good brass one and not one of those cheap plastic ones.

Many CGs run high water pressure and you could have plumbing issues not using a regulator. Broken lines/leaks ect.

If you can, park your RV/TT in your stick home's driveway and "24/7" camp inside it. If you must go into the house to get something (like can opener, TP, dish soap, etc. etc.), then write it down on a list. Then, buy these replacement items for your home. This "camp at home for 2 days" will identify most common needed items for your next camping trip...
