I had to remove my toilet as the valve froze and was leaking when I pressurized the water system earlier. My fault as this is a foot flush and I should have disconnected the water inlet. As long as its out I thought I would like to turn the flange so as to reorient the bowl so it allows more clearance to sit on. I see its screwed down to the floor but is it also glued to the black water tank? If so how do you change it or remove it. Might not be worthwhile if its a big hassle.

Call your local plumber. He probably has an inside pipe cutter. That's one that cuts the pipe from the inside.

My flange slips inside the pipe and can be rotated. I just remove the screws to do it.

Just did exactly what you want to do,needed more knee room. My flange tail is threaded and mates up with the pipe coming out of the black tank.I just unscrewed the flange from the floor and rotated it,not much went from like the 6 o'clock position to 5 o'clock but made all the difference in the world. No effect on flushing whatsoever.Maybe you'll luck out and have the same set-up.Good Luck!

Thanks all for the replies. I will try to rotate the flange later today when I get home from work.
I too am not looking for much just 1/8 turn or so will make a lot of difference.

Well I could not rotate the flange since on my TT its cemented to the tank. I cut two notches into the existing flange at a better position for the toilet to sit in next to the shower. This gives a little more room. I was able to reinstall the toilet with no problem in the new position.

Glad it worked out for you. I'll bet though that it is in fact threaded. On mine I had to use a hammer and punch to start it turning. But then I was going to remove and discard the black tank anyway so it didn't matter if I was wrong. In your case it's just as well to be safe and do as you did.

Yeah, I was afraid of breaking the tank. It would have been an expensive lesson. I figured not to force it and just make it work another way. Are they always threaded in or do they use the plastic cement to make a leaktight connection? I'm not sure how to tell. I didn't see any threads remaining on the connection.
