A couple of stories....
Some years ago I was chatting with a project engineer and we were discussing how to forward some information without making a phone call.. I gave him an answer and .. Well, That was how they decided to do it.. The information was the camera number being forwarded and the direction it was looking (We used hour and minute on a VCR clock and simply ran it through the VCR,, 100 dollar job, v/s a thousand or more of engineering and programming).

I'm watching the news: Thieves caught on film, was the headling, The announcer yammererd about some jerks steeling construction supplies from a DOT project on teh Chrysler Freeway.

Camera 9 was on the Lodge,, So was the construction project. (This is in Detroit, MI) Of course back then I knew the location of just about all 12 cameras. (Today ti's more like 160 cameras and YOU can watch them too, go tow www.Michigan.gov/mdot)

Why were they steeling State owned construction materials in front of a very visible (if, like me, you knew where to look) camera..

BECAUSE THEY WISHED TO GO TO JAIL

That's why.

Our salesman told us to ALWAYS lock the tailgate on our 2011 F150 EB. It has a rear camera and all F150's (new) are supposed to be wired for the camera. Just steal one and plug it in. (You might need a new rear view mirror with display so lock your doors too).

Thanks for the hose clamp info .
I put A hose clamp on my tail gate .
I turned it finger tight , then faced it down and tightened it with A 5/16 open end wrench . I also bent the end so it won't pull through .
Then I took the cable strap retainers off and put two different size nuts and bolts on each end .
So now to steal my tail gate you need A 5/16 wrench,be prepared to get i/8 of A turn, then try to pull the tail of the clamp through .
Then get two different size wrenches to get the cables loose .
You will be there much longer than you want to be .

I could have your tailgate in thirty seconds. My metal shears will go through a hose clamp in five seconds, maybe another five each to cut the cables, five more to grab the tailgate, and another five to heave a brick through your window because it was a hassle.

Geez, there's always a way to beat the system. I don't think a thief will be carrying around a tool box to take something. Anytime you can complicate their efforts, its a good thing. My hose clamp proved that.

Here in the park where I'm typing last year a kid stole the bicycle of the child of one of my morning coffee friends.. Then he came back and stole another, took 'em off and stripped them some.

problem.. Park installed security cameras, Manager replayed the proper recording and ........ Paid a visit to thief (Along with some nice unififormed gentelmen) The parentes of the thief no longer visit here.

The thief has other places to visit as well.
