I've been a RV.Net member for about 3 years, and have enjoyed reading the forums very much. I sometimes will chime in with a comment or advice in an honest effort to be helpful, or (infrequently) humorous. However, I recently posted a reply to a member who had a diesel engine failure, suggesting a "possible" cause. My post was subsequently removed with no explanation whatever. I suspect the Mod thought, perhaps by the wording, that it was "off-topic", which it was not meant to be. Perhaps he had his own reasons. This has happened on more than one occasion.
A suggestion : It might be appropriate for a Moderator to either insert a reason for the removal, or contact the member with same out of courtesy.
Anyway, I'm a little put off by this, and am reluctant to continue interacting on RV.net because of it.

It happens on most forums at one time or another. Ya kinda need thick skin to be on these things.
Sorry, and hope that you will continue to be a part of this group....its what makes this work.
Maybe the Mods will offer reasons, but I doubt it....they are often too busy.

By all means I hope you decide to continue to participate. It is the varied points of view of all of us that makes it interesting. On the occasions when I've had a mod remove my posting and I didn't know why, I pm'd the mod directly and asked for his/her view on it. I may not always agree with their reasoning, but I appreciate the chance to discuss it. They are listed at the top of each forum.
I've got 18,0201 Posts here since I joined in 2004...statistically I've probably had 30 or 40 deleted by all by themselves, and at least that many disappeared for no readily apparent reason.
But then, I'm was a 30 year Career Police Officer and developed a very thick skin. I do have a full life outside of this forum..but I really enjoy being here and hopefully helped some folks out a bit at least a few of those 18 thousand posts!
And I have in return been helped many times, and developed some friends here along the way. You will too.
Hang around at least till you get around 500 or so posts under your belt...you too will develop "Rhino Skin" on your backside and an immunity to being the hapless victim to the jeers, scoffing and below the belt shots!
Sort of!
My posts shouldn't be taken for factual data. They are purely fictional, for entertainment purposes and should not be constituted as actually related to scientific, technical, engineering, legal, spiritual or practical advice. Amen.
It could of been that what you posted was taken as being nasty, even though you didn't mean it that way. The readers can't hear your tone of voice, look in your eye, etc. they only get what they read. Sometimes a statement can be taken different ways by different folks. I usually read mine over, word for word a couple times before sending it to see if I made any mistakes or an unclear statement. Sometimes I catch something two sided. Sometimes an or or can help indicate your thoughts. Hang in there, it can only get better, or worse..

When I started moderating, I send private messages to each member whose post I deleted or edited. I think most of the moderators started with that philosophy. Unfortunately, most members took the courtesy notification to be an invitation to debate (argue). I've been called every name you can imagine.
Although I will still send private messages to new members explaining why I deleted or edited a post, i've given up on send them to others.
On a forum where I am a moderator, we use vBulletin software that allows you to set up an automatic message send when a post is deleted. If this software allows a similar action, could be a good idea?
