What are some decent (and affordable, of course) compact trucks with towing capacity of, say, 6000-7000#? We have a small garage, so don't want a monster truck. There are just 2 of us so we don't need a full back seat, probably just an access cab. Online, I see the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. Any opinions on these or others? I should add we want to purchase a new truck.

The Nissan Frontier is built on the same chassis as the Nissan TITAN (Typo!)...which makes it a substantial smaller pickup truck. Combine that with a powerful engine...a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, comfortable cab, nice ride and a 6500 lb tow rating and you have a truck that is often overlooked but a truly superb vehicle. Best of all the Nissan dealers tend to discount them quite a bit.

Wow, fordsooperdooty - that's just the kind of info we need. Would the Frontier be a good match, then, for an ultralite TT with these specs: 20' long, dry weight 3344#, hitch wt 236#, GVWR 4636#

When did Nissan start building the Tundra, I'm guessing you meant the Titan?

I find it hard to believe that the Frontier and Titan are built on the same chassis. So far as I have seen, the Frontier is quite a bit smaller overall and about a foot narrower than the Titan. It's really not possible to use the same chassis to produce 2 vehicles that are as much as a foot difference in width. The entire axles and suspensions have to be different, and likely the frame width too. Possibly the 2 different chassis have some similar overall design ideas, but I doubt they are the 'the same'.
