Its commonly done. Lots of people have the vehicle A/C system fail, especially in older RVs, and use the generator and roof top A/Cs while traveling. We do it occasionally if the wife wants to run the cloths dryer while we're going down the road.

Keep cool. Have fun.

Even if my coach AC worked perfectly, it would never keep the whole unit cool enough. So its very common on warm to boiling hot days to run the genset with 1 or 2 of the AC units going to keep it comfortable inside.

We very rarely don't have the genset running. The dash air alone is not enough to cool the rig down in hot weather.

This is the best way to keep the Class A cool. I have driven from Florida to NY several times with the generator running most of the way. Only shut it down when plugged in at a campground.

I agree with above posts. One thing to be aware of: When driving, your fuel level cutoff to the generator may be appear to be at a slightly higher level in the fuel tank. For example, mine cuts off at 1/4 tank, but when driving...during braking downhill the fuel in the tank will move forward and uncover the generator fuel pickup. A diesel genset is sometimes difficult to crank once air gets in the lines.

Therefore, I refuel slightly more often when running the generator.

Have fun!

Yes that's a good point that I had forgotten about. Ours shuts down at around a 1/4 also. I try to never let it go below a half a tank before refueling.

On our rig, we only seem to use about 1/2 gallon of fuel extra per hr running the rooftops.
