Your truck may not be providing 12v power also. Check to make sure that the fuse is not blown and in place in the truck for providing charge power to the trailer. I've had one truck so far that could provide power but from the factory the fuse was not installed.

I obviously do not know much about this stuff. But, When I plug the RV into the truck, all the RV driving lights work, but the interior lights do not.

One way to tell...take a voltage measurrment of the TT battery withou the TV attached...and again with the TV attached/ engine running. If the voltage goes up...it is getting something from the TV alternator.

TT means "Travel Trailer" and TV means "Travel Vehicle". I am really knew to all this.

TT = travel trailer
TV = tow vehicle
FW = fifth wheel
TC = truck camper

Just to start off with... :-)

There is a big shop here in El Paso, I don't remember the name but they appear to be the "go to" guys around here.
I would be more inclined to "run from"
I think they are feeding you a line of BS to sell a generator.

Is the battery switch off? If the battery is charged, the inside 12 volt lights should work with or without plugging into anything.
RV does have a battery, yes?
The running tow vehicle will provide some power if all is connected and functioning properly.

Or maybe they said, your charge connection is not working. Which is very possible for a number of reasons. But that is much different than implying that your model is not capable of that connection.

They might also have said that charging from the TV is very slow and inefficient, which is also true. Particularly when batteries are dead, which yours seem to be.

?????

If that's true when the trailer battery is "dead", there can't be better proof that there's something wrong or missing from your tow vehicle wiring-to-trailer system,

AND

If it's true during a time when you "know" the trailer battery is charged, you've got a different problem.

The RV interior lights are independent of/ unrelated to the exterior lights and should work if the onboard battery is charged.

You said while the umbilical is connected and the TV's engine is running you don't have interior lights on the FW. If you disconnect the umbilical, will the FW's lights then come on? If they still do not come on, then you probably have a "battery disconnect" switch that has been turned off. The switch is typically located in the battery storage box or you may have a switch inside the FW someplace...usually located by the entry door.

The "driving lights" hook up from the TV has nothing to do with the FW's interior lights. The FW's interior lights run off of the FW's battery(s).

However, the umbilical from the TV to the FW (which includes the running lights and brakes) may or may not include a 12vdc line from the TV's alternator to the FW's battery(s). This 12v line is the wire that charges the FW's battery(s) while being towed.

As mentioned previously, take a multimeter and measure the DC voltage at the FW's battery(s) while disconnected from the TV...you should have around 12.6v if the battery(s) are fully charged...a little less if not. Then connect the umbilical and start the TV's engine and measure the battery(s) again. If the voltage jumps up to around 13.8v, then the TV's alternator is charging the FW's battery(s). If the voltage stays at 12.6, then the TV's alternator is NOT charging the FW's battery(s).

Good luck

Very good one. My Komfort has a battery disconnect switch and it will not charge in the off position; shore or TV plug.
