So I am "complimenting" my WeberQ gas grill with a Go-Anywhere charcoal, and was sorting out how I was going to store the charcoal. Saw these gamma seal lids on the net and remembered I already keep a empty Home Depot 5 gallon(?) orange bucket in the 5er's basement, just to use as a seat for when I am searching though the basement.

Figured I can get one of these lids, add charcoal, and use the bucket for something other than a butt rest.

I was surprised to do a search on this site and found no mention of these. They seem to be big with the survivalist crowd. Anyone else use these? Seems like a neat idea to keep things watertight.

I keep my dry dog food in a bucket with the gamma seal, works great. ez open, ez close and will keep the bugs out.
I bet there are many other even better uses for the gamma seal.

I know it would be to expensive but I'd sure like folks who make joint compound and paint in 5 gallon pails to use them. I'v actually got a scar on my wrist from trying to open those "snap on/off" lids.
Gamma are great.
And we still use the pails with gamma lids for seats and short step stools. They take a lot of punishment.

Been using Gamma Seals for 20 years or more. Have several buckets with them. Even have a few extras I have never used just in case I needed more and they stopped making them. Used them for dog food and dry storage containers for white water canoeing. Used to loan out a few buckets to other canoers on day trips with me to put bug spray, sun screen, towels, shirts, chips, snacks, etc. when on canoe day trips with me. I have never found a 3-1/2 to 7 gallon bucket they did not fit on. Some took a little doing to get them on but I removed the center lid from the ring and used a rubber mallet to get them seated on the bucket rims and just tapped or pounded them on the rim the rest of the way. Just be careful not to loose the thin o-ring that seals the lid to the mounting rim. I got a couple of my loaner buckets back after canoe trips without the o-ring. They apparently fell off unnoticed by the users. I was able to get replacement o-rings at a local industrial hose and fitting supplier. They matched them to another o-ring I removed and took in with me. I bought a few extra o-rings just in case.

Good to hear these are RVnet approved.

Hey Mobeewan. Since I live in your backyard, is there a local supplier that carries these? I ordered one from Amazon, not the cheapest price availible. Also saw them on the WW Graingers site (have an account) but they were even more expensive there.

My pool chemicals come in plastic buckets of various sizes that all have screw-on lids with gaskets to prevent leakage of chlorine fumes, etc. I carry dog food in one on all of our trips and usually have an empty one along to use for whatever comes up.
Anyone who has a pool - and doesn't use a pool service - probably has an abundance of used buckets they would be happy to give you for free.

We find lots of storage items here in Utah, every store has some including Wally World. Storage and preparedness are some of the hot topics here and there are lots of options on containers of all sizes.

I've used GammaSeals for over a decade. Started using them on my buddy's boat. Kept the phone, camera and other important things in it. It's been over board with no leaks. I also keep our Dog and Cat food in them. Keeps criters out!!!

Just dawned on my slightly senile mind as I rered this thread, the first use we ever had was for doing laundry.
We'd take a 5/7 gallon bucket, drill about a thousand holes in it. Attach a bridle to it and with some laundry soap in there with the clothes run it around the lake a couple of times, and presto clean clothes. That's where I got the scar on my arm from prying off the oringinal snap on/off lid and then we found the Gamma lids.

I use one that use to be for dog food, when we had 100lb dog instead of 14lb, that works fine for charcoal. However here is a gotcha, I had a second one that I put self lighting charcoal in, one that you don't need a chimney or starting fluid to get going. Well walked out into the garage a few months later and the bucket was all split open! Seems the chemicals in the charcoal and the bucket didn't get along. Plain charcoal has been stored in the other bucket for at least 2 years now maybe 3.
