I was camping at Charlotte Motor Speedway this past weekend and had problems with generator running. The generator would run for approx. 1hr then just die. The tank was full of fuel and I have a fault code of 41. The generator is an Onan 5500 HGJAB. Has anyone one else expirenced this problem if so what did you have to do to correct ? Generator has less than 200 hours. Also I changed fuel filter before I found fault code and purchased fuel pump but have not installed.

Now I noticed the fault code is now 36 and no longer 41.
The first thing I would check is the fuel filter. I had the same problem and after $200 for diagnosing the problem and the cost of a fuel filter it ran good again.
Code 41 is generator rotor fault. Corrective action is see an authorized Onan dealer.
Code 36 Engine stop contoller, Engine stopped without command by controller. Corrective action:
Gas model- check and fill the fuel tank. (I know you have a full tank.) Tube could be higher than engine tube.
Secure the spark plug leads to the spark plugs.
Replace the spark plugs.
Service the air cleaner.
Check for mechanical damage.
This right out of the book as problems and corrections.
