While Norcold seems to catch the headlines, lets not limit the warning to just them… Dometic also has a expanding recall list for the same problems and reasons…
Any of them can overheat, leak, and catch fire even the ones not recalled…

The remark about Auto Club raises a red flag. What kind of RV policy would not cover property loss. They have go after Norcold but still it seems property coverage should be in place.

Gale, I don't know how much truth to this, but have heard that some insurance companies are limiting coverage for RVs with a Norcold refrigerators installed. I do know that some will give a reduction in policy price, if you remove the Norcold and install a residential model.

I am assuming that the OP on the other Board is from Los Angeles. If so, the policy would be from SoCal AAA. I called SoCal AAA since the OP said they would not cover it, and I also insure through them, and I could find nothing in my policy excluding it, or stating anything Norcold was not to be insured. My Agent assured me I would be fully covered if a refrigerator fire occurred, no matter who made it, as long as it was properly installed.
I then called a buddy who is a Claims Adjuster for them, he said it would take a few days for a Claims Adjuster to look at it, and they would have to wait for a Report from the Fire Department as part of Claims Processing. He said it normally takes a couple of days for the Claims Adjuster to schedule looking at the unit. Considering the OP on the other thread was able to get a denial less than 48 hours, the Claims Adjuster must be real quick, and the Fire Department speed processes a report. He said it is possible the Motorhome may only have liability insurance if it is fully paid for, and he said in that case, it would not be covered for a Fire.

Over the past several months, I've gotten quotes for full coverage from nearly all major, and some not so major, insurance companies for my motorhome. Not one of them asked what make or model refrigerator was installed in it.

That is good to know.....When I called our insurer and told them I had removed the NOcold from our RV, they said I would see a small reduction in my rate at the next renewal.
