This has never crossed my mind until lately. DW And I have both been stove up for the last year or so and have not been abel to git out an go. About a month or so ago I noticed that the Batteries were not up to their ususl peppy selves. I do start the diesel engine about once a month and go for a short ride of about 60 miles round trip. I went out today to start the Engine and It would not start. It had the jerky movements like it wanted to but just would not turn over.I tried the gen set but it was just barely trying to start. I keep the RV plugged into house current to keep the batteries charged. My Question, when the charger is on, should the inverter be on also? When I tried to start the engint today, All systems said the batteries, Four coach and two chassie, were charged. When I tried to start it the indicator went to nothing. I went back and flipped the main breaker off and back on and then tried and the engine started right up. This rv is a 2006 Fleetwood Revolution LE 40 ft. I did have the inverter on when it started.

It sounds like something may have tripped and stopped the power from our batteries after the last time you took it out. Sounds like some sort of inline circuit breaker or relay was reset. The full battery power returned to the starter circuit once you flipped of the main and back on again.

I don't have a clue why a main breaker or an inverter has anything to do with starting a diesel engine.

If you're plugged in all the time, there's a chance the batteries are getting boiled. how's the water?

The Inverter can be ON, but if plugged into Shore Power, the Inverter will NOT be on but in Standby mode. NEVER leave the Inverter ON when stored. IF you have a power disruption the Inverter will then drain the coach batteries. IF your batteries are boiled dry OR just plain BAD, your inside panel will show the batteries UP because the Inverter/Charger will be supplying that reading. Doug

When plugged in the inverter should be off.

YOu said before you tried to start it you had good power but when you switched from ON to Start everything went dark (To Zero)

I have seen that.. More than once.. IN my case.. I cleaned and re-connected the battery terminals and......... All was good.

Before you start throwing money at it,, Try cleaning the connections.

With the small amount of mechanical ability I have, do believe you may be right. The batteries read(on the dash) as being 14.8. I tried it again a while ago and it did the same thing. It goes UGH--UGH--UGH several times and when it does this all instruments go blank and then right back on. Each time it goes UGH this happens. I finally got it started by using aux starter. I ran the Engine for 30 minutes in conjunction with gen set. Turned everything off. I tried to restart but it would just burp at me. I plugged the shore power back in and it started I plan to clean the battery connections next. Thanks for the info offered here. I'll keep you posted.

If what you are doing doesn't work, check your battery disconnect switches. I had a similiar situation except I had lost all dc power. Exercised the disconnect switch and all was well. Had to replace the switch about a year later due to the same problem.

Guess what folks, I received my copy of Motorhome MAG tody and they have an article there that fits my problem to a "T" When I try to put the levelers down, it says low battery power. And the slides do not work either. I plan to take it to a local RV place Monday and get them to check it out good . Thanks for all the input.
