A couple tablespoons of Robic septic tank treatment and a few gallons of water after dumping. Even more when I'm not going to use the camper for a few weeks. The tank is just like a septic tank, why not treat it like one. If I know my distination, I will darn near fill the black tank and let it sit for the week or two before I go on a trip. Then dump at the first campsite. There won't be any crud in the tank after that treatment.

Three nights before ending our snowbirding, I put some dish washer detergent (low suds) into half a tank of water. Drive to the next destination for our next to last night. Empty tank and refill with just water and drive to last night. Empty tanks as we leave for home in the morning. Our tank gauges still work after 7 yrs. Camp on!

Has anyone heard of this and what kind of detergent should one use? Dishwasher, laundry, or dish soap?
Many will add 1/3 cup of Dawn dish soap to 1/2 tank of clean water then drive onto their next destination. Story goes you don't want to use any more Dawn unless you want to leave a trail of bubbles behind you(vent stack.)

As you can tell, everyone does something slightly different. I am a big fan of this one, especially on long (month or More) trips or when heading home. Course the DW always did say I was full of Sh.....poop

While camping I use nothing other than water between dumps, no Calgon, no ice, no chemicals, no Dawn or other soaps or detergents.
I have no smell issues unless I dump my head in the bowl and open the toilet gate.
When dumping I simply fill the tank with water then dump, then rinse by adding a small amount of dish detergent, fill tank then dump. Doing this allows for a fresh start for the next outing or putting trailer into storage.

Huuuuuh.....the writer of this apparently never has drycamped 3-4 days in 90+ degree weather like we just did, and often do, in order to continue to fish, explore, or rockhound at any altitude during the summer months.
If you want to be ready for any kind of camping adventure at any time you better at all times add something other than just water to your RV black tank if you don't care for ripe sewage.

When I first joined this forum and started RV'ing I was convinced that the geo method was the greatest. That was before I started to leave for 5-6 months each year in my rig. Now my feeling is it's all just hype. Give it a try, just don't bet the farm on it.
For me the best thing is to dump when full when I'm sitting, back flush every month or two, and drive when it is half full and dump at the new site. Angel Soft TP and plenty of water when I have FHU's
Adding detergents or anything else seems to be worthless.

We use the bottom of the linen closet for our hampers and laundry detergent. Since it is in the toilet enclosure I will occasionally (when ever I think of it, about every 4th or 5th tank) dump a small amount of LD down the toilet. I initially used the GEO method but this seems to work just as good. It may do nothing but it seems to take less water, when I use the factory equipped tank flush system, to get to clear run off.
